Trump Calls on GOP to ‘CLOSE THE DEAL’ and Vote McCarthy for Speaker

This article was originally published at The Post Millennial, a part of the Human Events Media Group.

*****

Former President Donald Trump urged members of the Freedom Caucus in the House to vote for Rep. Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday, in what will be a fourth round of voting for House Speaker. “TAKE THE VICTORY AND RUN!!!” Trump said on Truth Social. Trump has consistently backed McCarthy for Speaker.

Trump made the post after other posts encouraging the GOP to gather around McCarthy and boost him into the Speakership, one of which blasted Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who leads the GOP in the Senate.

Trump said that after the three failed votes on Tuesday, “some really good conversations took place,” and that now is the “time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY…”

Speculations on the outcome of those conversations were made by Tucker Carlson on Fox News, and it’s believed that McCarthy’s team may be on board with some of those ideas, such as the “Release all files related to January 6 + new Jan 6 Cmte run by GOP,” and putting “Thomas Massie in charge of a new Church committee.”

The January 6 Committee was convened by Pelosi after the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, in which Trump supporters occupied the Capitol Building for a time, causing Congress to postpone the vote to certify the 2020 election results for Joe Biden. Once the building was clear, voting continued, and Biden secured the Oval Office for himself and the Democrat Party.

That Committee held only two Republican members, after Pelosi refused to seat those members chosen by McCarthy to serve. Pelosi rejected Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, after which McCarthy and the GOP essentially boycotted the Committee. Pelosi, however, appointed two Republicans, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, both of whom are not present in the 118th Congress that convened on Tuesday. Cheney lost her seat, while Kinzinger declined to seek another term in office.

The Church Committee, convened in 1975, “investigated and identified a wide range of intelligence abuses by federal agencies, including the CIA, FBI, Internal Revenue Service, and National Security Agency. In the course of their work, investigators identified programs that had never before been known to the American public, including NSA’s Projects SHAMROCK and MINARET, programs which monitored wire communications to and from the United States and shared some of that data with other intelligence agencies. Committee staff researched the FBI’s long-running program of ‘covert action designed to disrupt and discredit the activities of groups and individuals deemed a threat to the social order,’ known as COINTELPRO. The FBI included among the program’s many targets organizations such as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the anti-Vietnam War movement, and individuals such as Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as local, state, and federal elected officials.”

Once the full report from the Committee was released, it was revealed that “Investigators determined that, beginning with President Franklin Roosevelt’s administration and continuing through the early 1970s, ‘intelligence excesses, at home and abroad,’ were not the ‘product of any single party, administration, or man,’ but had developed as America rose to a become a superpower during a global Cold War.”

Trump slammed outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and encouraged the GOP to “not turn a great triumph into a giant & embarrassing defeat.” The GOP holds 222 House seats, and a potential Speaker needs 218 votes to secure the seat. However, the number of votes needed decreases as the number of representatives present decreases, and voting can take place so long as there is a quorum.

Trump took aim at McConnell, as well, saying that if there’s any infighting that should be happening among the GOP it is against McConnell, and not McCarthy.

Three rounds of voting took place on Tuesday, during which the Democrats nominated Brooklyn’s Hakeem Jeffries, voting for him unanimously, and the GOP nominated McCarthy, Jim Jordan, Andy Biggs, and saw members vote for other congressmen as well, resulting in a leaderless House.

By the end of the third round of voting, McCarthy had lost 20 of his party to votes for Jordan, who in turn was one of those who had nominated, and voted for, McCarthy. A fresh round of voting is set to take place on Wednesday at 12 pm. No business can move forward in the House until a Speaker is elected.

XRP Price Prediction: These are the Potential Target for the Ripple (XRP) Price in 2023

XRP price

The crypto space is gearing up for one of the most volatile months with multiple events set to impact the value of the majority of the cryptos. XRP price is also believed to rise significantly as the buying volume has intensified to a large extent. The much-awaited judgment of the Ripple vs SEC lawsuit is expected to be produced which may act as the biggest catalyst for the price to propel high.

Ever since the market dropped due to the FTX fiasco, the XRP price has maintained significant strength and recovered most of the losses very quickly. Since then the token is able to hold above the crucial support levels but constantly fails to rise above the pivotal resistance.

However, the current consolidation is expected to prevail for some more time beyond which a gigantic bull run may compel the price to undergo a 5x or 10x rally.

#XRP Price Targets

Target 1 – $10 region

Target 2 – $60-$62 region

The XRP lawsuit judgment might be the catalyst that sends it on another multiple “X” run in the coming months and years.

Eliot’s waves indicate a comparable level pic.twitter.com/aP16bxBGxj

— Ripple Van Winkle | XRP Researcher | (@XRPNews_) January 4, 2023

The analyst here predicts the targets for the XRP price which is interestingly in double-digit figures based on the Eliot wave analysis. However, these target levels are believed to be achieved in the next couple of years.

Considering the short-term projection, XRP price is believed to remain extremely volatile as a couple of events are believed to impact the entire crypto space. The upcoming FOMC MoM and the fresh CPI rates are believed to uplift the XRP price to some extent. The XRP price with a slight push towards the north may reach $0.4 and secure levels above $0.44.

Key Points to Note:

Resistance:  $0.4

Support : $0.33

MA-50 Day: $0.3722

MA-200 Day: $0.3862

Celsius Files Motion to Extend Bar Date to February 9, When Will Customers Get Fully Compensated?

0
celsius token

Celsius network has filed a motion to extend the prior schedule for the Bar Date before Martin Glenn, Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge. According to court filings by Kirkland & Ellis LLP – the legal counsel serving as restructuring advisor to Celsius – the motion will be held on January 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., prevailing Eastern Time. However, due to prevailing conditions, the motion hearing is expected to be conducted remotely using Zoom for Government.

While the company has accumulated hundreds of millions in debt to customers and investors, Celsius has only committed approximately $44 million. Notably, over 17,200 claims were filed by Celsius creditors as of December 29, 2022. Thereby ballooning the burden of Kirkland & Ellis LLP in the restructuring process.

Nonetheless, Celsius victims are not interested in the restructuring process but only want their money returned. Over six months later, the Celsius network is still hiding behind legal shadows and lengthy court proceedings to distract the real attention from creditors and affected users.

Celsius Stakeholders Losses Patients on Bankruptcy Proceedings

At the time Celsius network filed for voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings to provide an opportunity to stabilize its business, approximately $167 million in cash was available to facilitate operations. As the bankruptcy proceedings take longer, Celsius users are worried more cash is being spent on legal fees instead of refunding creditors.

Moreover, the company halted withdrawals, swaps, and transfers between accounts citing ‘extreme market conditions’. The company’s predicaments have escalated after Bitcoin miner Core Scientific (CORZ) announced it will shut down over 37,000 crypto mining rigs. Nonetheless, Celsius indicated that its is does not oppose the closure of Core’s mining rigs due to its financial obligations.

“Celsius does not oppose the relief sought in the Rejection Motion—indeed, Celsius believes the Celsius Contracts are even worse for Core economically than what Core believes. Further, Celsius will agree that Core can power down all of the Celsius rigs on January 3rd to stop the losses that Core alleges it suffers from continuing to perform under the Celsius Contracts,” Celsius noted.

The company’s legal protection comes at a time the United States is grappling to regulate the crypto market to protect investors from predatory projects.

For instance, federal agencies – including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (Federal Reserve), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) – have issued a joint warning statement on related crypto assets risks to financial institutions.

While high-cap altcoins like Solana (SOL) and Dogecoin (DOGE) keep fading, traders are transferring their interest to smaller-cap altcoins which maintain splendid promise—like Snowfall Protocol (SNW).

Bitcoin’s Two-Year Downward Trend Shall End Soon, Claims Analyst

BTC Price

The overall cryptocurrency market is showing signs of growth, even as the global cryptocurrency market struggles to regain its $1 trillion market capitalization.

Currently, the global crypto market cap has gained 1.55% in the past 24 hours and is trading at $819.85. This price rally is led by Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market cap, which is currently valued at $16,864 after a 0.77% increase in the past 24 hours. Resistance for Bitcoin is at $16,900, while support is at $16,850.

Crypto analyst Kevin Svenson has expressed a bullish outlook on Bitcoin. In a tweet to his 118,900 followers, Svenson mentioned that Bitcoin’s relative strength index (RSI) is about to move beyond its diagonal resistance, potentially marking the end of its two-year downward trend.

The RSI is an indicator that measures the currency’s movements.

In addition to his tweet, Kevin Svenson has also released a strategic video explaining the potential of the upcoming RSI breakout for Bitcoin.

According to the analyst, this movement is crucial for cryptocurrency. Svenson believes that the breakout, which he expects to occur within the next two weeks, will bring about a shift in Bitcoin’s trading pattern. He cites a similar weekly RSI breakout at the end of the 2018 bear market for Bitcoin.

If the RSI follows Svenson’s prediction, he claims that Bitcoin’s price could reach a target of $21,000. At its current trading value, Bitcoin would need a 25% increase to hit this target.

Ranked: The 20 Safest Airlines In The World

0

AirlineRatings.com has just released its annual list of the world’s 20 safest airlines. The list ranks the largest and best-known carriers—as well as the safest low-cost airlines.

It’s been a rough few years for the airlines, from the massive slump in air travel caused by the pandemic to high-profile scenes like last week’s meltdown for Southwest Airlines, which canceled thousands of flights across the U.S. during the holiday season and has sparked an investigation by the Department of Transportation.

But if there’s any good news when it comes to the airlines, it’s the safety of air travel today: “I would say the airline system is incredibly safe,” says Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com, which monitors the safety and in-flight product for 385 airlines.

AirlineRatings.com has released its annual list of the safest airlines in the world, as well as the … [+] United States.

getty

“The Covid pandemic has put [an] enormous strain on airlines across the globe with lengthy delays and flight cancellations testing even the most faithful and forgiving passengers,” says Thomas. “From a safety perspective, airlines have done a remarkable job in getting their pilots and cabin crew to operational flying, and their maintenance engineers are the unsung heroes who have looked after the aircraft. There have been no accidents over the pandemic period attributable to Covid.”

In coming up with its list, AirlineRatings.com considered a range of factors, including fleet age, serious incidents, fatalities, audits from aviation’s governing and industry bodies, industry-leading safety initiatives and more.

“Our top twenty safest airlines are all standouts in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation and launching of new aircraft,” says Thomas. “In fact, the safety margins between these top twenty airlines are very small—they are all outstanding airlines.”

Thomas says the site only looked at serious incidents in making its determinations. “All airlines have incidents every day and many are aircraft manufacture issues, not airline operational problems,” says Thomas. “It is the way the flight crew handles incidents that determines a good airline from an unsafe one. So just lumping all incidents together is very misleading.”

Qantas Airlines has been named the safest airline in the world.

Coming out on top this year is Qantas, which has been named the safest airline for 2023. It replaces last year’s winner, Air New Zealand.

It’s not the first time that Qantas has won: The 100-year-old Australian carrier was named the world’s safest airline from 2014 to 2017. In 2018, it was in the top 20 when AirlineRatings awarded 20 airlines jointly. Then it won again for three years in a row: 2019, 2020 and 2021.

A number of U.S. carriers also made the top 20 list. Alaska Airlines came in first among the U.S. carriers, followed by Hawaiian Airlines, United, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

“No big surprises this year with the major airlines continuing to pour resources into their pilot training and aircraft,” says Thomas. “The burden has been far greater than normal, bringing aircraft back from storage and [doing] additional training to get pilots back to work after Covid.”

AirlineRatings’ annual report also included the 20 safest low-cost airlines, with the carriers listed alphabetically. U.S. carriers Allegiant, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit and Westjet made the cut.

How to Talk to Your Kids About Layoffs

0

Layoffs, we must remember, are a family affair. And facing the painful reality of job loss as a family is necessary. This doesn’t mean your four-year-old needs to know the details of your household budget, or that your pre-teen needs to worry about transferring to a new (unknown) school. But it does mean approaching conversations, and any problems you have, in a clear and age-appropriate manner. In this piece, the author offers advice on what to say (and not to say) when you break the news to your children as well as practical strategies to help your family weather the job loss together.

We all know that layoffs are hard. They create stress, worry, and financial instability, not to mention grief over a job that you loved, or colleagues you miss. Unfortunately, layoffs are fairly common. In the U.S., approximately 40 percent of Americans have been laid off at least once in their career. You don’t even have to be laid off to feel anxious about it; simply knowing that you could be next, or saying goodbye to colleagues can spark layoff anxiety.

If this is you, you’re probably worried about a lot of things: your mortgage or rent, grocery bills, and a job hunt, among other things. And the stress only compounds when we realize this impacts not just our own life but also each member of our family. The stakes are particularly high when it comes to your kids. How will your layoff impact them? You might suddenly be worried about paying for soccer registration—and perhaps the orthodontist bill, too.

Here are seven things you can do to help your family weather a job loss together.

Prepare for the Conversation

You’ll need to tell your family that you’ve lost your job, and probably pretty quickly. Your emotions are likely raw, and you probably will still feel very worried about what’s taking place. This is an exceedingly difficult time to talk about what’s happened because the conversation can quickly veer in a direction you weren’t intending. This is especially true when kids throw curveball statements you don’t expect or ask a question you can’t answer.

The best thing to do is to decide ahead of time what your goal of the conversation is, what you are willing to share, and also what would be better left unsaid. (You and your partner might game this out together.) For example, while you might have real concerns about making your mortgage payments, there is no reason to bring up the possibility of having to sell the house if that is not a present reality. Think about what would be beneficial to tell the family without causing them unnecessary stress.

Be Age-Appropriate

A conversation with a four-year-old will obviously be very different than one with a teenager. With younger kids, terminology matters a lot. Try to speak in terms they understand — something like “Mom won’t be going into the office for a little while.” And try to avoid certain phrases. Ellen Galinsky, president and founder of the Families and Work Institute in New York, warns that children might hear “I got fired” and think of guns. She also points out that “laid off” doesn’t hold any meaning for most little kids.

Older kids, however, have a more nuanced understanding of the implications of job loss. And don’t be surprised if they have a lot of follow-up questions about how they will be impacted. At the same time, realize it might take a while for their questions to come out. Reassure them their questions are welcome at any time.

Be Authentic

Your instinct might be to conceal what you’re feeling in an effort to protect the kids, but it’s actually healthy for them to talk about real emotions. As clinical psychologist Dr. Julie Futrell explains, they know if what you’re telling them doesn’t match the emotions they are sensing.

When parents model honest emotions, kids have an opportunity to see mom and dad as human and to witness resiliency and healthy coping mechanisms. You should share what you’re feeling, why, and how you are managing those feelings. So you might say, “Daddy feels really sad today. And it’s ok to feel sad. But I’m going to be alright and will do what it takes to get back to feeling happy.”

Just a quick word of caution: Do not look to children for emotional support. That’s not their role. Maintain a strict boundary and instead surround yourself with trusted adults who can provide emotional support.

Develop a Family Mantra

A layoff can be a teachable moment. Think together about what defines you and how you face hard times. Make that a positive affirmation about who you are as a family. For example, “We are Colemans and we can do hard things together.”

Studies show that these positive affirmations change neural pathways and light up the reward center of the brain. This also gives your kids a sense of stability and teamwork. You’re in it together. You’ll figure it out.

Be Consistent

Children thrive with a stable family routine. While modifications might be necessary, keeping the week as “normal” as possible increases the sense of safety and security.

Make Necessary Changes as a Family

While consistency is a goal, some lifestyle changes will likely be necessary. Take the opportunity to involve the kids in brainstorming and developing budget suggestions. Appropriate topics might be thinking through the grocery budget, Christmas spending, weekend activities, or a clothing allowance. This is a chance for everyone to think outside of the box. What fun meals could you create together on a budget? Develop a list of unique activities that are wallet-friendly. A quick internet search pulls up countless creative ideas. Engaging everyone gives the whole family a sense of control while also teaching kids financial skills they will use in the future.

Serve Together

Research shows that service to others can help the participants to see beyond their own situations and pain, so finding ways to volunteer together can be hugely beneficial. (And also, it’s free!) When done as a family, the experience offers quality time together, creates memories, and teaches children valuable lessons about altruism and compassion. It has also been shown to make people happier.

Teaching Resilience for the Long Haul

Remember, layoffs are common. This may be your first time handling one, or maybe you’ve been here before. Think back on your own childhood: Do you remember one of your parents being laid off? If you do, you probably remember how your family handled it. Now consider your own children: How will they remember this experience? While no one expects to look back on a layoff fondly, this season doesn’t have to sink an individual or devastate a family. But in fact, the experience can be used to bind your family closer together and teach valuable lessons.

It’s an opportunity to model grit, resilience, positivity, and perseverance. Having to model these traits might even make you feel them yourself, and that can even help you land your next job.

India’s services growth at 6-month high on robust demand – PMI

By Anant Chandak

BENGALURU (Reuters) – India’s services industry saw activity increase at the fastest pace in six months during the final month of 2022 amid robust demand, fuelling business optimism despite high costs, a private-sector survey showed.

The S&P Global India services purchasing managers’ index (PMI) rose to 58.5 in December from 56.4 in the previous month, confounding expectation in a Reuters poll for a fall to 55.5.

The index was above the 50-mark separating growth from contraction for the 17th straight month – the longest stretch of growth since June 2013.

“As we head into 2023, companies signalled strong optimism towards the outlook for output,” noted Pollyanna De Lima, economics associate director at S&P Global Market Intelligence.

“Inflation trends were mixed, as input prices rose at a faster pace and the upturn in charges moderated.”

Expenses rose faster due to greater energy, food, staff and transportation costs so prices charged remained elevated despite moderating slightly from November, when they rose at the quickest rate since July 2017.

This could elevate India’s retail inflation which eased to 5.88% in November, below the top of the Reserve Bank of India’s target band of 4%-6% for the first time in 2022.

Hiring hit a five-month low, albeit in expansionary territory, even though the new business sub-index rose to a four-month high due to strong demand.

“Positive sentiment and ongoing growth of new business continued to support job creation, but there were areas where capacities were reportedly adequate to cope with current requirements,” added De Lima.

International demand remained strong and the sub-index rose to its highest since July 2019.

Strong demand continued to support business confidence, which eased only slightly from November’s near eight-year high.

As global growth slows and inflation remains high in most countries, India is seen as a bright spot as its growth was expected to be faster than that of many other economies.

Thanks to the growth in services as well as in manufacturing, the composite index rose to 59.4 in December, the highest since January 2012, from 56.7 in November.
