English Premier League action resumed this weekend, and there were several intriguing results — notably at Old Trafford, where Manchester United hosted Ipswich Town, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Red Devils claimed an emphatic 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town in their second match of the campaign. Having suffered a 2-0 defeat against Hull City in their opening fixture, they entered the contest with a lot to prove.

Ipswich opened the scoring in the 29th minute, but Bruno Fernandes leveled matters in the 40th. A Jacob Greaves own goal then handed the Red Devils the lead in the 56th minute.

Fernandes subsequently added two more to complete his hat-trick before Bryan Mbeumo struck United’s fifth in the 82nd minute.

Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom started on the bench but was introduced at halftime. Unfortunately for him, Manchester United were rampant, leaving him unable to truly influence the match until stoppage time.

Ipswich attacker Julio Enciso dispossessed Lisandro Martínez deep in United territory, drove into the box, and squared the ball to an unmarked Akpom. The Nigerian simply tapped home from close range to make it 5-2, which proved to be the final kick of the match.

Soccer Premier League: Chuba Akpom Joins Exclusive Company After Man United Goal

Following his strike against Manchester United, Chuba Akpom has joined exclusive company among Nigerian stars.

He becomes the ninth Nigerian to score against Manchester United, joining Nwankwo Kanu, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Obafemi Martins, Shola Ameobi, Ademola Lookman, and Semi Ajayi.

This represents a major milestone for Akpom, who is aiming for a standout campaign at Portman Road after completing a permanent summer switch from Ajax.

He will look to maintain this goalscoring form for the Tractor Boys as they fight to secure top-flight safety. Born in England to Nigerian parents, the 30-year-old committed his international allegiance to Nigeria, though he is yet to earn a cap for the Super Eagles.
