Liverpool in contact with former Chelsea defender

Liverpool continue their pre-season campaign with a friendly against Premier League rivals Leeds United on Sunday. 

Rio Ngumoha’s goal earned the Reds a narrow 1-0 victory over Wrexham in their last outing, and new manager Andoni Iraola will hope to see his side build on that result when they face the Whites in Chicago, Illinois.

Liverpool will then face Ligue 1 side Monaco in their final pre-season friendly of the summer, before visiting Newcastle United in their first game of the new Premier League campaign.

Ahead of their game against Leeds, though, it appears that the Merseyside outfit have initiated contact with a former Premier League defender.

As per Italian outlet TuttoJuve, via TEAMtalk, Liverpool have made contact with AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, who is in the final 12 months of his current contract.

The Englishman joined Milan from Chelsea back in 2021, having made 27 appearances for the Blues after graduating from their Cobham academy.

Since moving to Italy, the centre-back has played more than 200 times for Milan in all competitions, establishing himself as a key player for the club.

Tomori’s contract in Milan is set to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign, though, and the report from Italy suggests that Liverpool are eying a move to lure the player back to England.

According to the report, Iraola and those in charge of Liverpool’s recruitment are keen to bolster their ranks in defence, and Tomori has emerged as one of the names high on their shortlist of potential targets.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Reds can persuade Milan to part ways with the England international, though, with the Premier League side working to understand the Serie A side’s asking price.
