The Hungarian Armed Forces is holding the Adaptive Hussars exercise between May 4 and 15 this year, in sync with one of NATO’s major exercises, the communications department of the General Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces said on Monday, adding that this year’s exercise will not involve significant troop movements.
The statement citing General Gábor Böröndi, the commander of the Armed Forces, as saying that that since its launch in 2023, “Adaptive Hussars has evolved from a classic exercise into a national and system-level crisis management model that fits seamlessly into NATO’s defence plans.”
Böröndi said that the main goal this year was to incorporate the knowledge gained during last year’s training, the largest of its kind since the fall of communism, the Hungarian News Agency wrote.
“With the forward-looking changes we identified then, we can make military planning, command and control even more effective,” he added.
This year’s exercise is being conducted concurrently with the “Steadfast Deterrence 26” exercise, which poses challenges to NATO’s military plans across the entire Euro-Atlantic region, and in alignment with its objectives and procedures, he said.
“By participating in the joint preparations of the 32 member states, we are demonstrating that, in addition to our national commitments, we are also committed to collective defence,” he said.
