Ex-Nigeria Golden Eaglets star reveals chat with Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller

Former Nigeria youth international Hamzat Ojediran has opened up about a memorable moment with German football legend Thomas Müller following a recent Major League Soccer (MLS) encounter, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who once starred for Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets, now plays in the MLS with Colorado Rapids, while Müller represents Vancouver Whitecaps. The two players came face-to-face on April 25, in a competitive league fixture that ended in a 3-1 victory for Vancouver.

Müller started the match as an attacking midfielder and once again showed his quality, playing the full 90 minutes and registering an assist. His intelligence in the final third helped unlock Colorado’s defence, as he set up Cheikh Sabaly for the opening goal.

Over the course of the game, the German completed 28 accurate passes and had two shots, underlining his influence in attack.

Ojediran, on the other hand, also played the entire match but had a more difficult outing. Deployed in defensive midfield, the former RC Lens star completed 50 accurate passes, showing his reliability in possession.

However, he struggled to contain Vancouver’s attacking movement and committed six fouls, the highest in the match, as his side conceded three goals. Despite the contrast in performances, the meeting between both players did not end at the final whistle.

Soccer Muller and Ojediran, A moment beyond the match

Sometime during or after the game, Müller took time to speak with Ojediran, offering advice and encouragement to the young Nigerian midfielder. While Ojediran did not reveal the exact details of their conversation, he made it clear that the interaction meant a lot to him.

The former Golden Eaglets star later shared his appreciation on social media, writing:

“Thank you for the advice and kind words senior man, Thomas Muller. Real Recognize Real. Danke!”

Müller’s presence in the MLS has already made a strong impact. In the 2026 season so far, he has played nine matches, scoring four goals and providing one assist, while maintaining an 83% passing accuracy. His role as a playmaker remains central to Vancouver’s attacking structure.

Ojediran, meanwhile, continues to grow into his role as a defensive anchor. Across 10 matches this season, he has scored once and recorded a passing accuracy of 91%, showing off his efficiency in recycling possession and breaking up play.

Müller is widely regarded as one of the most intelligent footballers of his generation, famous for his unique ‘Raumdeuter’ style, a role built on movement, positioning, and reading space.

His career, especially at FC Bayern Munich and with Germany, has been filled with success. Müller won the 2014 FIFA World Cup and collected a remarkable number of league titles and European trophies, to build a legacy defined by consistency, intelligence, and teamwork.
