The Resident Evil Requiem release date is over a week away, but fans are already dodging spoilers. Some buyers managed to find a copy of the Capcom game and are sharing their thoughts. Early impressions reveal whether popular characters will survive the campaign (spoilers in article).

Capcom’s next survival horror game has generated furious pre-orders from physical collectors. Even though the Resident Evil Requiem release date isn’t until February 27th, some gamers have already received their copies. That has put fans on spoiler alert, with leaks about the game’s storyline starting to emerge (spoilers below).

Redditor scott1swann shared images of a sealed Resident Evil Requiem Steelbook Deluxe Edition. It’s unclear how the buyer acquired the PS5 game so far in advance. Retail mishaps led to a rumor that GTA 6 would be limited to digital purchases. Although Take-Two Interactive denied the report, Nintendo has also faced issues with footage of new titles spreading before a launch.

One player with early access compared it to previous Resident Evil games. Using RE3 as an example, gameplay seems less linear, with exploration encouraged. If the PS5 version’s over 72GB file size is any indication, some areas aren’t tied to the main campaign. Previews suggest that an average playthrough may last 15-20 hours, which is longer than Resident Evil Village.

RE9 leaks are shedding light on its cast

Fans are more skeptical about leaks involving the RE9 cast. A poster at the Reset Era forums warns that Leon Kennedy could meet his demise by the end of the game. Another character, Claire Redfield, may have died from a virus and won’t appear as rumored. That scenario would disappoint followers hoping to see the protagonist from Resident Evil 2 and Code: Veronica return.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to verify whether these claims are legitimate. Still, a screenshot featuring a popular villain is slightly more convincing. In the image also linked in the forums, Leon targets the T-00 Tyrant. Known as Mr. X, the trench coat-clad bioweapon stalked Leon and Claire throughout RE2.

In the age of freely available AI tools, potentially doctored media may spread. Most trusted sources and content creators will likely avoid angering Capcom. The embargo for Resident Evil Requiem reviews is reportedly set for February 25th, two days before the game’s release date.
