2025’s No. 1 New Manga Has Been Decided (And It’s a Well-Deserved Win)

As 2025 comes to an end, it is a great time to reflect on what the year offered to the anime and manga industry, and Shueisha’s popular manga platform, Manga Plus, has also just unveiled its annual data collection, highlighting the standout manga of the year. The platform does this every year, and while the highlights include several categories, the most prestigious is naturally the top new manga on the platform. Manga Plus determines the top new manga based on the number of views recorded within the first seven days following the release of a newly debuted series’ first chapter.

A total of 58 titles were released on the Manga Plus platform this year, and the number one manga of 2025 is unsurprisingly the highly anticipated sequel to Gege Akutami’s manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, written by Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki. This outcome was a clear decision, as the debut chapter of the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel amassed over 1.7 million views, while the runner-ups, Otr of the Flame and Metaphor: ReFantazio, recorded just over 300,000 views each. Modulo claiming the top spot comes as no surprise and further highlights how Jujutsu Kaisen has emerged as one of the most popular franchises of the new generation of anime and manga.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Was the Clear Standout Among This Year’s New Manga Debuts

It goes without saying that the primary reason Jujutsu Kaisen’s sequel became the top new manga, with its first chapter also emerging as the most-read chapter on the platform, surpassing One Piece and Chainsaw Man in the category, is the immense popularity of the original manga. However, the major factor behind the overwhelming buzz surrounding Modulo’s debut can be traced to the fact that fans of the original series were not fully satisfied with its ending. Jujutsu Kaisen’s conclusion remains a widely discussed topic, often criticized for feeling rushed, reinforcing the idea that fans wanted more from the franchise.

As a direct continuation of the original manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s debut naturally drew intense curiosity, with fans eager to learn the fate of their beloved characters. Additionally, the sequel’s main characters, being the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki, two characters many fans had long hoped would become a couple in the original series, made the debut chapter even more appealing to the franchise’s massive fan base. This reception suggests that fans are treating Modulo as a way to reconnect with the original Jujutsu Kaisen story, which is a positive sign for a franchise that has established itself as one of the strongest of the new generation in the anime and manga industry, making its sequel’s rise as 2025’s top new manga an easy choice.
