Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman has been called a top player by Kelechi Iheanacho’s Celtic teammate ahead of the AFCON 2025 clash with Tunisia.

Celtic winger Sebastian Tounekti has spoken glowingly about Ademola Lookman ahead of Nigeria’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations clash against Tunisia, Soccernet.ng reports.

Anticipation builds ahead of Nigeria’s crucial Group C clash against Tunisia at the AFCON 2025, where Tounekti, Kelechi Iheanacho’s Celtic teammate, will be aiming to help his team secure all three points against Nigeria.

Speaking exclusively to Soccernet.ng ahead of the encounter, Tounekti reflected on his recent conversations with the former Leicester City star following the draw.

Soccer Speaking with Iheanacho

Tounekti revealed that he recently spoke with Kelechi Iheanacho, drawing on a shared connection from his time at Celtic before his trip to Morocco.

“Both of them I know are really good, and I spoke a little bit with Iheanacho when I was in Celtic,” Tounekti said to Soccernet.ng. “He just said yeah, it was funny that we were gonna have to play against each other.”

Nigeria head into the match with confidence after their opening win over Tanzania, while Tunisia also impressed in their first group game.

Win or lose for either side, today’s match result is expected to be yet another hot topic of conversation for both sides.

Soccer Admiring Lookman

Asked which Nigerian player he admires most, Tounekti was quick to single out Ademola Lookman owing to the winger’s consistency at both club and international level.

“They have a lot of quality players in that squad, but as a winger, you always look at the winger,” he said. “For me maybe it’s Lookman. I think he’s been brilliant for the national team and also for his team, Atalanta, for a long time. He’s a top player for sure.”

Soccer Nigeria vs Tunisia game

Nigeria and Tunisia face off on Saturday at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 PM local time. Both teams come into the encounter on three points from their opening matches, making the clash a potential group decider in Group C.

For the Super Eagles, victory would all but secure a place in the Round of 16 and reinforce the focused, game-by-game approach stressed by players like Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in the build-up to the match.
