Brazilian esports organisation Alpha7 Esports has been crowned this year’s winner of the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC), one of two international tournaments at PUBG UNITED 2025.

The squad competed against 39 other international teams in Bangkok, Thailand, securing the largest share of the compeition’s $3m (~£2.24m) prize pool.

As a result of its performance in the Super League, Alpha7 Esports began its PMGC run in The Gauntlet, which featured 18 matches across three days. After placing within the top seven teams, it earned a direct path to the Grand Finals.

PMGC Grand Finals Explained

There were several notable teams in the Grand Finals, including the PMGC 2024 champion DPLUS and runner-up Regnum Carya Esports (formerlly Regnum Carya Bra Esports). Furthermore, several squads stood out throughout PMGC. R8 Esports topped The Gauntlet with 154 points.

Meanwhile, the best-performing team from the Group Stage, DRX, gathered 179 points.

For the Grand Finals, 16 teams competed in 18 matches across three days, aiming to out-survive other squads and earn as many eliminations as possible.

However, the third day saw the implementation of Smash Rules, where teams that reached the point threshold became ‘match-point eligible’ in the following matches. For PMGC 2025, the threshold was the top team’s total score by game 12 plus an additional 10 points.

If a team reaches match point and secure a first-place win the roster becomes this year’s champion.

Alpha7 Esports actually recorded a slow start in its Grand Finals run, despite placing third in the first match, it saw early eliminations in the next three rounds. However, Alpha7 Esports flipped the script on day two, securing back-to-back wins in games eight to nine, vaulting up the leaderboards as one of the frontrunners.

On the third day, Alpha7 Esports would be the top team by match 12, establishing the match-point threshold at 125. The team became match-point eligible by match 16, and was the first team to do so in the competition.

Alpha Gaming reached match-point in match 17, and ULF Esports became eligible in the final game of PMGC.

However, none of these teams were able to secure that elusive first-place win after securing match point. As a result, Alpha7 Esports won by default as it had secured the highest number of points (142) after 18 games.
