After winning six Super Bowls as the New England Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick makes his debut on the collegiate level. After a year away from the NFL game, Belichick is back in football and accepted the North Carolina job this winter following Mack Brown’s dismissal.
Now the eyes of the football world will be on Chapel Hill on Monday night. Belichick has brought in more than 70 new players this offseason. He’s dubbed the program as the “NFL’s 33rd Team,” bringing in former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi to help run the program.

For TCU, it’s another season opener with all eyes on the program. Two years ago, the Horned Frogs hosted Colorado for the debut of the Deion Sanders era.

TCU quarterback Josh Hoover is 20-of-25 for 193. He’s got one pretty TD and one interception. He’s clearly been the best player on the field so far tonight. On3 reported back in the spring that Hoover turned down interest from Tennessee to return TCU.

Gio Lopez proved to be one of the most productive quarterbacks on the Group of Five level at South Alabama. He produced 274.7 yards of total offense last season, ranking No. 22 nationally in the FBS in that category.
He finished fourth in the Sun Belt in passing (2,559 yards or 232.6 yards per game) last season, fourth in touchdown passes (18), fourth in completion percentage (206-for-312 or 66 percent), and third in fewest interceptions (five). He also ran for 465 yards and seven touchdowns, while averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Lopez beat out sixth-year senior Max Johnson for the starting job.
