FC Dallas v Minnesota United: Consistency and concentration key for hosts, says Quill

FC Dallas head coach Eric Quill urged his players to find more consistency and concentration after falling to another narrow defeat in the MLS.

Quill watched on as Dallas lost 3-2 to Western Conference leaders San Diego FC last time out, with Tomas Angel’s 96th-minute winner snatching all three points.

Dallas find themselves 11th in the West, having picked up just one win in their last six matches, with two of their three losses coming via one-goal margins.

Quill reaffirmed his belief that his team can beat any other club in the division, but insisted that they must focus for every minute of each match in order to do so.

“[We] gave up the first goal but then again showed the character we’ve showed all year when we go down in the league,” Quill said.

“We created enough chances to win the game, for sure. Some of the decision-making led to [our] demise.

“I told the guys, I think we are where we are because we don’t play an entire 95+ minutes. We are in every game, you can take the 5-0 game out, we are toe-to-toe with everybody, and we just have moments where we switch off. Tonight, their first goal was from a throw-in. You can’t do that at this level.

“I don’t feel like we value the details [that go into winning] yet. I would argue in every game there are spells or multiple spells where we are the better team.

“I truly believe we can beat anybody; I really believe that. Call me naive if you want but I see what I see.”

Next up for Dallas is Minnesota United, who are third in the Western Conference after playing out a 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls last time out.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

FC Dallas – Petar Musa

Musa has been a key performer for Dallas this season, leading the club with seven goals.

Against San Diego, Musa scored for the third consecutive game, the second-longest streak in a single season in his MLS career. His only longer goal streak was a five-game run between July and August 2024.

Minnesota United – Joaquin Pereyra

Pereyra notched an assist and two chances created in Saturday’s draw with the Red Bulls.

It was his 13th MLS match this season with multiple chances created as no other Loons player has more than five such games in 2025 (Robin Lod).

MATCH PREDICTION – DRAW

Dallas beat Minnesota United, 5-3, last June, the last time they hosted the Loons. That five-goal effort was the most goals they had scored in any competitive match since the beginning of last June.

Each of Dallas’ last three matches have featured five or more goals. It is the third streak of at least that length during the regular season in their club history, joining a four-game streak in 2000 (May-June) and a three-game streak in 1996 (July).

Minnesota conceded an equalising goal in the 90th minute of their 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls. The Loons have dropped four points in games they led entering the 90th minute or later this season, tied for most in MLS (along with Colorado, Philadelphia and Portland).

In their last six league matches, Dallas have won one, drawn two and lost three. Minnesota, meanwhile, have won two, drawn three and lost one in their last six.

Hosts Dallas will seek to address a poor run of results on home soil this season with two draws, six losses, and just one win in nine MLS contests.

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY

FC Dallas – 33.0%

Draw – 25.6%

Minnesota United – 41.4%
