June saw some picture-worthy moments around Saskatoon and Saskatchewan, from summer events and the start of the Roughriders season to the 10th annual Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation.

June 2: Fantastic finish
William Underhill, left, sprinted to victory at the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools Special Olympics’ annual track and field meet on May 29. This is the third year the 17-year-old has competed in the event, which has been hosted by E.D. Feehan high school for four decades. (Michelle Berg, Saskatoon StarPhoenix)
June 6: Fun at the festival
Thomas Carroll held his son, Lucian, on his shoulders so he could reach a toucan puppet during a roving performance by Adam Francis Proulx and his Bird-Brained Puppets at the Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan. June 10: A water warning
A paddleboarder on the South Saskatchewan River took advantage of some warm weather. The Saskatoon Fire Department, however, was warning locals of rising speeds and heights due to an increase in water flow. According to the SFD, the river could rise by about two feet. June 11: Help for Fry Society
Elizabeth Fry Society executive director Nicole Obrigavitch and Community Safety Minister Michael Weger attended a news conference at the Western Development Museum. The province announced $918,000 in funding over two years to help women reintegrate after incarceration. (Michelle Berg, Saskatoon StarPhoenix)
June 17: New-look Riders win
Samuel Emilus, who had a trio of touchdowns in the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ home opener win against the B.C. Lions on June 13, celebrated with fans. (Heywood Yu, Regina Leader-Post)
June 18: Tops in crop research
A University of Saskatchewan researcher tended a field at the Crop Science Field Facility, a 120-acre agricultural site dedicated to the production, processing and evaluation of field crops. (Michelle Berg, Saskatoon StarPhoenix)
June 23: Rock Your Roots walk
Dancers participated in the grand entry during the Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation at Victoria Park on June 19. The annual event, organized by Reconciliation Saskatoon, brings the community together to honour residential school survivors and recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day, which was on June 21. June 26: Oh, so close!
From left: Brendan Kozun, Sara Kozun, Davis Mubali and Jason Leonew watched Canada take on Switzerland during a FIFA World Cup viewing party at Sports on Tap in Saskatoon. June 29: Butterfly exhibit opens for season
The Prairie Butterfly House at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo has reopened for the season. The exhibit allows visitors to walk among dozens of butterfly species in a tropical setting during the warmer months. Berg recently captured some of the sights from the venue.
