Somehow, flip-flops achieve both a carefree spirit and an impossibly chic one. The style is quintessentially summer; however, leather iterations and designer interpretations have catapulted the thong flat into so much more than just your beachgoing shoe. Fashion girls of all aesthetics have embraced the style for a few seasons now, starting with girls in Copenhagen rocking Havaianas with bouncy Cecilie Bahnsen dresses to this season’s controversial Dune flats from The Row. I finally figured out why jelly flats have women in a tizzy, buying them in droves and trying to convince others that it’s the perfect footwear choice: Camp! Summer camp and all the nostalgic, feel-good, warm-and-squishy memories that figuratively and literally came with wearing jelly flats during summer camp. Here’s another summer trend that has become a mainstay. Shell accents—seashell jewelry in particular—are one way to instantly turn simple warm-weather wear into full-on summer-ready ensembles.
