Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has condemned Israeli blockade on supplies in Gaza, noting that food must not be used as a ‘political tool,’ according to Reuters.
The PM’s remarks follow the UN agency’s announcement that Gaza ran out of stocks due to the growing hunger crisis.
“The UN World Food Programme just announced that its food stocks in Gaza have run out because of the Israeli Government’s blockade — food cannot be used as a political tool,” Carney said on X.
The UN agency revealed that Gaza has not received any humanitarian or commercial supplies for over seven weeks as a result to the closure of all main border crossing points. This blockade marks the longest closure in Gaza since the beginning of the war.
“Palestinian civilians must not bear the consequences of Hamas’ terrorist crimes. The World Food Programme must be allowed to resume its lifesaving work,” Carney added.
Despite the growing hunger crisis in Gaza, Israel has previously denied that Gazans are facing bad living conditions.
In addition, the Israeli occupation has accused Hamas of exploiting aids.
As a response, the Palestinian Group has denied such accusations.

Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed at least 51,300 Palestinians and wounded more than 115,338, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
“We will continue to work with our allies toward a permanent ceasefire and the immediate return of all hostages,” Carney stated.
On April 25, US President Donald Trump revealed that he pushed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to allow the entry of food and medicine into Gaza.
