“I’m proud of him” – Former France and Marseille star breaks silence on Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray masterclass

Former Galatasaray striker Bafetimbi Gomis has heaped praise on Victor Osimhen, saying the Nigerian forward is doing an “exemplary job” and is making the Turkish giants, Africa, and Nigeria proud, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen, 26, has enjoyed a sensational season at Galatasaray following his loan move from Napoli in September.

With 33 goals in all competitions, the Nigerian has not only emerged as the top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig but also propelled the Istanbul club to the brink of a historic domestic double.

And one of the club’s former heroes is clearly impressed.

“Osimhen is defending the colours of Galatasaray as he should be,” said Gomis as per Habersarikirmizi.

“He is doing an exemplary job with his performance and I am proud of him. I hope he leads us to the championship and makes Galatasaray, Africa, and all of Nigeria proud. He is a very hard-working and hungry player.”

Gomis, who retired in 2024, knows what it means to wear the famous yellow and red jersey. The former France international scored prolifically during his time at Galatasaray, finishing as the league’s top scorer when they lifted the Süper Lig title in 2018.

Despite being a seasoned forward with spells at Lyon, Swansea, and Marseille, Gomis had nothing but admiration for the way Osimhen has adapted to life in Turkey.

“I don’t have any advice to give to Osimhen,” Gomis added. “Osimhen does justice to the Galatasaray jersey. He already knows that he is loved at Galatasaray and he should continue to make us proud and score more goals. I wish him the best.”

Osimhen’s short-term future remains uncertain. His parent club Napoli are expected to consider offers when the transfer window reopens, as the forward’s contract runs until the summer of 2026.

With his form drawing attention across Europe, the Turkish side may face stiff competition if they hope to keep him.

For now, though, Galatasaray fans will be dreaming of a league and cup double – and Osimhen is at the heart of it.
