Galatasaray celebrate Victor Osimhen after record-breaking display in Nigeria’s win over Rwanda

Soccer

Turkish champions Galatasaray have paid tribute to Victor Osimhen following the striker’s match-winning performance for Nigeria in their 2-0 victory over Rwanda on Friday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, was the standout performer at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, scoring both goals to propel the Super Eagles to a crucial win in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

The 26-year-old opened the scoring in the 11th minute, arriving at the back post to slot home Ademola Lookman’s pinpoint cross. He then doubled Nigeria’s lead in first-half stoppage time, pressing Rwanda’s Thierry Manzi into an error before expertly chipping the ball over goalkeeper Fabrice Ntwari.

It was Osimhen’s first game of the qualifiers, and he wasted no time making an impact.

His latest brace continues a rich vein of form, following a hat-trick against Antalyaspor before the international break and goals against Alanyaspor and Kasimpasa.

He has now scored in four consecutive matches, netting an impressive eight goals across club and country in that span.

Galatasaray were quick to acknowledge their in-form striker’s latest achievement, taking to social media to send their congratulations.

His two-goal haul also saw him etch his name further into Nigerian football history.

He has now overtaken legendary striker Segun Odegbami to become Nigeria’s second all-time top scorer with 25 international goals. Only the late Rashidi Yekini, who remains Nigeria’s record scorer with 37 goals, sits ahead of him.

Osimhen will be keen to add to his tally when Nigeria host Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, March 25.

The Super Eagles currently sit fourth in their qualifying group with six points, trailing leaders South Africa by four after Bafana Bafana’s 2-0 win over Lesotho on the same night.
