US Vice President JD Vance was also present at the meeting in which the Ukrainian leader sought security guarantees from the US as Donald Trump said that he is trying to bring an end to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart that he should be more thankful to the United States, adding, “Your people are very brave, but you’re either going to make a deal or we’re out, and if we’re out, you’ll fight it out.”

He further said, “I gave you the Javelins to take out all those tanks. Obama gave you sheets. You don’t have the cards. With us, you have the cards, but without us you don’t have any cards.”

During the meeting, Zelenskyy asked the US Vice-President if he’s been to Ukraine “to see our problems” to which Vance said that he’s read about it and seen it.

“If you can get a ceasefire right now, I tell you, you take it – so the bullets stop flying and your men stop getting killed,” the US president told his Ukrainian counterpart.

“Of course, we want to stop the war,” Zelenskyy replied, adding that he wants security guarantees though. To this, Trump replied, “You’ll get a ceasefire faster than an agreement.”
