Shenzhen July Live Music Picks

Music

Shenzhen’s July live music calendar gathers seven acts with sharply defined sounds: Daisy the Great’s tender indie pop, YoungJack’s melodic rap, Nothing’s layered shoegaze, Tommy Genesis’ alternative hip hop, BADBADNOTGOOD’s groove-led instrumental work, PLINI’s fluid guitar compositions and Jolianne’s late-night R&B. Across town, the month offers a compact run of shows with real personality.

Here are the ones to mark on your calendar.

Daisy the Great

music 1dec903fd0da4f09a82a924186eab462_2411_3000_7750349.0x0-.jpeg

New York duo Daisy the Great have quietly become one of indie pop’s most distinctive voices. Mina Walker and Kelley Nicole Dugan write songs that balance vulnerability with understated wit, carried by beautifully intertwined vocal harmonies that have become their signature. Their second album, The Rubber Teeth Talk, expands that sound with richer arrangements while keeping the intimate songwriting that first drew listeners to tracks like Record Player. Guangzhou and Shenzhen audiences will catch them during their first mainland China tour.

Nothing

Philadelphia’s Nothing has spent more than a decade refining a sound where dense walls of guitar meet melodies that linger long after the final chord. Their records drift comfortably between shoegaze, alternative rock and dream pop, balancing immense volume with surprising delicacy. The band creates atmosphere through texture and repetition, making each performance immersive without ever feeling distant.

BADBADNOTGOOD

Since forming in Toronto over a decade ago, the quartet has become as comfortable collaborating with Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator and Daniel Caesar as performing on its own, earning a reputation for dissolving the traditional boundaries between jazz, hip hop, soul and electronic music. Their latest album, Mid Spiral, continues that evolution through expansive arrangements, shifting rhythms and richly textured improvisation. Live, the music remains remarkably immediate—grooves emerge, stretch and transform while each player leaves room for the others to steer the performance in unexpected directions. For listeners who enjoy discovering where modern instrumental music is heading, this is one of July’s essential shows.

Australian guitarist PLINI has earned an international following through compositions that value melody as much as technical precision. His music moves freely through progressive rock, metal, ambient music and jazz fusion, creating instrumental pieces that remain remarkably approachable despite their complexity. Joined by UNDA ALUNDA, his Shenzhen performance promises one of the month’s most rewarding nights for anyone who enjoys musicianship at its highest level.
