Mo Salah: Liverpool want explosive Super Eagles star to replace Egyptian maestro

Soccer

Former English Premier League champions Liverpool are want to sign Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman as a replacement for Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, Soccernet.ng reports.

Salah has been phenomenal for the Reds since he joined them from AS Roma in 2016. The Egyptian forward has provided 241 goals and 109 assists in 387 appearances for the Reds. In fact, he is the club’s third highest goalscorer after Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

Salah has been integral to everything that Liverpool have achieved in the last nine years. However, the 32-year-old winger looks set to exit Merseyside.

This is as Salah has not signed a contract extension even as his current deal expires at the end of the season. The former Chelsea man has often indicated his readiness to stay in Merseyside, but it appears Liverpool are unwilling to meet his contract demands.

With the issue lingering, there is a high possibility that Salah would have to move on in the summer. As such, the Reds are searching for a top replacement.

According to Transfer News Live, Lookman is a top target for Liverpool. The 27-year-old Super Eagles striker has been in great form for La Dea since he joined and has even attracted interest from other big clubs in Europe.

Ademola Lookman has been brilliant for Atalanta since he joined the club’s three years ago. The Nigerian forward has contributed 49 goals and 22 assists in 107 appearances for Atalanta.

But recently, he had a fallout with La Dea boss Gian Pero Gasperini after the latter called him the worst penalty taker he had ever seen. After that, news broke that Lookman was going to leave Atalanta at the end of the season.

The club would also be desperate to sell him if he refuses to sign a new contract. Lookman started his career in England and if he will move to a top side, it will likely be a Premier League club.

Aside from Liverpool, other top teams like Manchester United and Arsenal are monitoring his situation. But right now, Arsenal and Liverpool stand out as favourites as they need to sign some quality attackers in the summer.
