Huawei has announced updates to the MateBook D line of laptops for 2023. The PCs are powered by 13th-gen Intel processors, and are joined by new smart TVs. Each Smart Screen S3 Pro also has triple HDMI 2.1 ports and a 120Hz display rated to scale up to 240Hz in a gaming mode.
Huawei has made its latest MateBook D-series laptops official today (April 17, 2023). They are of the 14- and 16-inch variety as they were in 2022…and seem to differ little from their predecessors, except for their CPUs.
The MateBook D 16 can be configured up to the Core i9-13900H processor, whereas the D 14 has been upgraded to the i5-1340P or i7-1360P. The processors drive the same FHD IPS panels with 300 nits of max brightness and 100% of the sRGB gamut, however.
Both PCs have 16GB of RAM, although the D 16 starts with a 1TB SSD where the 14 has 512GB. They can be pre-ordered for 5,499 yuan (~US$799) and 4,999 yuan (~US$727). The laptops have been unveiled alongside new Huawei Smart Screens.
The S3 Pro’s 3840×2160 display is driven by quad-Cortex-A73 silicon clocked at 1.5GHz, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It runs at 120Hz out of the box, although the OEM claims that it can reproduce a 240Hz “experience through frequency doubling technology“.
The 400-nit screen can be used for video-conferencing as well as entertainment thanks to a 1080p web-cam. It cannot be housed in the Smart Screen S3 Pro’s frame, even though the HarmonyOS 3.1 TV aims for a premium look with razor-thin bezels.
Accordingly, it now goes for 5,999 yuan (~US$872) in its 65-inch form, whereas the only other 75-inch SKU is priced at 7,999 yuan (~US1,163).

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
