Cruden secures go-ahead for 122 homes in Edinburgh

Cruden Homes’ plans for 122 new homes in Edinburgh have been approved.

The 17,000 square metre scheme forms part of the West Craigs development, which is set to include at least 1,700 homes, a new primary school, health centre, parkland and a network of cycle routes.

Designed by ISA Architecture & Design, the scheme will include one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom terraced and semi-detached houses and townhouses, all with private gardens.

Cruden Homes managing director Fraser Lynes said he expected the development, which will form part of a new community between Barnton and the Gyle, west of Edinburgh’s city centre, to meet high demand in the area.

“The availability of quality new housing remains scarce, so we are delighted to bring these desirable new homes to the market and be part of this fantastic, growing new community, right on the fringes of the capital,” he said.

Work is due to start on site this spring, with the first phase of homes due for completion early next year.

Cruden Homes is part of the Cruden Group, which last week announced that the managing director of its building arm was stepping down as part of a shake-up that will see the group move away from competitive project tendering.

It said it planned to focus instead on development-led affordable housing opportunities to provide the business with more stability in current market conditions.

Cruden Group was named last summer as preferred bidder for a key phase of Edinburgh’s £1.3bn waterfront regeneration, shortly after announcing the reorganisation of its regional housebuilding businesses into a single operation.
