Laura Marling has shared new children’s album ‘Laura Sings Raffi’ in full.
The surprise release features 17 songs, each one a version of something either written by or associated with he Canadian children’s singer, Raffi.
Egyptian-born Raffi Cavoukian specialised in music for children, becoming perhaps the most-listened to English language children’s performer on the planet.
A mother herself, Laura Marling became fascinated with the songs – how they worked, their attraction to children, and the way she herself related to them.
Opting to record 17 songs for this new album, ‘Raffi’ is something unique in her catalogue.
She comments…
“Laura Sings Raffi marks a logical next step for me, but it’s not only a desire for tolerable children’s music that landed me here. Having discovered Canadian songwriter and children’s entertainer, Raffi, while living in North America, I developed a love for his sincere, dead pan renditions of both his original songs for the very young and those plucked from the canon – all before I even had children of my own.”
