Weekly Weather: Rain Increasing For Eastern Australia | Mirage News

BOM

Hello from the Bureau with your weekly weather wrap for Sunday the 24th of May.

Rainfall totals under this cloud band have mostly been less than 5 mm, but totals are building over the Eyre Peninsula and towards Adelaide. Rain, however, has been persistent over the northern New South Wales coast, which has disrupted macadamia harvesting.

For the rest of Sunday, further useful rain is forecast for dry cropping regions of South Australia, extending up towards Alice Springs. Showers will increase across parts of central Victoria and inland New South Wales, and it will be a mild and sunny day in Western Australia after a frosty start.

Into Monday, a broad area of low pressure will develop over south-east Australia, leading to patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms. Rainfall totals will be inconsistent but generally focussed around South Australia with a low-pressure system.

On Tuesday, a rain band will develop over the east. Rain in the Riverina could disrupt lambing activities, but this will be offset by milder temperatures. And a watch area for heavy rain will be the New South Wales South Coast.

Rain pushes into Queensland from Wednesday, and healthy totals are possible. This includes for the Maranoa/Warrego, where places like St George have received less than 20 mm so far this autumn. All while a cold front arrives in Western Australia.

Into Thursday, this cold front will bring showers and cooler winds to Western Australia’s Wheatbelt. Rain continues along the east coast, where pockets of heavy falls remain a possibility, including for Tasmania’s east coast.

And finally on Friday, scattered showers are possible along the south coast of the country, but a broad ridge of high pressure will maintain settled conditions across northern areas.

And that’s it for today. Stay up to date with the latest forecasts through the week, and we’ll see you next time. Bye for now.
