Wigan-headquartered Domis Construction has reported a turnover increase for the fourth consecutive year, although a “significant” unspecified provision hit its pre-tax profit.
The contractor’s accounts for the year ending 30 April 2025 show a £253.4m turnover – a 56 per cent increase from the previous 12-month period when it recorded £162.6m.
Pre-tax profit increased to £7.5m from £6.4m, although the firm’s margin dipped from 4 per cent in 2024 to 3 per cent in the latest accounts.
In their strategic report, the firm’s directors described “another successful and profitable year for the company”, which saw turnover grow even “after making a significant provision relating to costs incurred on a project which was later aborted”.
They credited Domis’ positive performance to the successful completion of five contracts. These included the firm’s first recladding project supported by the Building Safety Fund, two residential blocks at Waterhouse Gardens, the Salford Youth Zone, the Lowood development in Wilmslow and the final phase of the 500‑home Castle Irwell scheme.
Headcount increased from 164 to 191, while the annual wage bill went up from £9.5m to £12.6m.
Cash at bank rose from £6.9m in the last financial year to £10.5m.
Domis held £11.8m in loans payable after one year.
The firm paid out £5.6m in dividends, almost a £2m increase from the previous year’s £3.9m.
The accounts also showed an increase in the firm’s RIDDOR frequency rate from 35 in 2024 to 50 in 2025.
Domis secured a preferred contractor position in the last financial year on seven further projects worth about £496m. Five of those are repeat clients, while two, Property Alliance Group and Muse, are new.
Additionally, the contractor started four new developments during the year, including a £68.5m job to deliver Cat A office space in the Rylands building in Manchester.
It is also building a 76-storey tower in Deansgate (pictured) for developer Salboy after Manchester City Council approved the second phase of the £360m Viadux scheme last April.
