Wolfsburg to battle Premier League clubs for 6 G/A Nigerian striker who struck against Lazio

Wolfsburg are leading the race to sign Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi this summer — but they could face stiff competition from Premier League clubs for the Viktoria Plzeň forward, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old has returned to action in explosive form following a lengthy injury layoff, sparking fresh interest from top European clubs ahead of the next transfer window.

Durosinmi had been close to joining Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2023, but the move collapsed after medical checks revealed a knee issue.

The German side pulled out of the deal, prompting the Nigerian forward to undergo surgery that sidelined him for nearly a year.

Eintracht Frankfurt completed the deal for Rafiu Durosinmi to join the club for €9m from Viktoria Plzen.

Now fully fit, Durosinmi is making up for lost time with a string of eye-catching performances for Viktoria Plzeň.

The powerful striker marked his return with two goals against Teplice in the Czech top flight before scoring in both legs of Plzeň’s Europa Conference League tie against Ferencváros.

His hot streak continued with a goal against Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday night — a towering header from Lukáš Kalvach’s cross — taking his tally to five goals and an assist in his last six games.

According to reports in the Czech Republic, Wolfsburg are leading the chase for Durosinmi’s signature, having previously expressed interest in the striker before his injury setback. However, they are not alone in their pursuit, with several unnamed Premier League clubs also keeping tabs on the Nigerian.

Durosinmi’s blend of pace, power, and aerial threat has made him one of the most exciting young forwards in Central Europe.

His recent goal-scoring exploits have reignited interest from top leagues, with England’s top flight emerging as a potential destination.

Despite missing nearly a year of action, Durosinmi has quickly re-established himself as Plzeň’s key attacking weapon. His return has coincided with the club’s push for silverware on both domestic and European fronts — but his resurgence is likely to attract significant bids this summer.

Plzeň are expected to demand a substantial fee for the striker, who joined the club from Karviná in 2022. His current contract runs until 2026, giving the Czech outfit a strong negotiating position.

Soccernet.ng’s verdict – Durosinmi, exciting Nigerian youngster finally ready for big things

It has been beautiful to watch Durosinmi grow from a starry-eyed kid nurtured at the Box2Box FC to one of the finest marksmen in the Czech Republic.

With Wolfsburg and Premier League clubs circling, Durosinmi’s time in that country may be drawing to a close. It is a move that’s a year in the waiting.

The Nigerian forward’s career has been plagued by injuries, but his current form suggests he is finally ready to fulfil his promise. If he can maintain his fitness, a move to one of Europe’s top leagues could be just around the corner.

For now, all eyes are on Durosinmi — a striker whose talent is shining brighter than ever as the summer transfer window approaches.
