“I Like Playing the Mets”: Derek Jeter Laughs Off His Amazing Record While Remembering His Iconic Moments

Derek Jeter is a New York Yankees legend and a 5x World Series champion. And yes, he may have hung up his cleats, but he is far from being done with baseball. He has his business along the same lines. He was also the FOX analyst this time around, along with his long-time friend Alex Rodriguez and, of course, David Ortiz.

And they made sure to bring it live to the broadcast. One thing most understand about Derek as an analyst is that he predicted what would happen with the games extremely well. However, along with his sharp hitting and predicting skills, did you know that he even has a sharp memory? Well, it’s true! Recently, he was shown a trove of paintings from his prime days, and he recalled them perfectly. Plus, he dragged in the New York Mets a little too!

Jeter, in an event, didn’t take a lifetime to recall some of the iconic moments of his career. One by one, he recited from when the picture was. First one from Game 5 of the 2000 World Series, against the New York Mets. Then he recalled the game against the Seattle Mariners. In the last picture the man showed, Derek Jeter mentioned, it was the game he played against the Mets. And the person showing him said, “So you came alive when you played the Mets, yeah.” And Jeter’s answer was epic!

Derek Jeter, with a smirk, said, “Yeah, I like playing the Mets.” Well, this is the same Jeter who said in an interview, “How we looked at it was just the Mets.” By this, he meant that there was no rivalry between them. This is because he never took them as a threat! And in many ways, even though both New York teams were just 10 miles away, were rather distinct.

The Yankees, on the one hand, were a team rich in history and tradition, and winning was their middle name. The New York Mets were the newer team; the fans were also new, and they were yet to achieve as much as the Yankees. But well, Jeter seems to have loved playing with the Mets. One cannot expect the same answer if you ask about the Boston Red Sox of Jeter, though!

The Mets are now challenging Yankee’s throne!

The 2000 World Series was iconic because it was when the New York Mets came close to getting the title of New York’s best. Under Bobby Valentine, the Mets ended the regular season with a solid 94-68 record. However, the way up was tough, and the New York Yankees ultimately won. That time, Derek Jeter got the World Series MVP honors. That time Derek Jeter had more fierce rivals, like the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays. However, the times have changed; it’s a whole new era. And here Steve Cohen is calling a lot of shots.

Indeed, the New York Mets are now becoming a threat to the Yankees. They are building a stellar team, and Cohen is ensuring that they become the New York rulers, well, in terms of baseball at least. The two teams right now are clashing hard for one big thing—the Juan Soto sweepstakes. Hal Steinbrenner wants Soto back, and Cohen wants the same. According to Scott Boras, Soto is going to make the call soon.

So, with the winter meetings coming, we don’t have to wait long. But if Soto joins the Mets, things are going to get difficult for the Yankees. Because we all saw Soto being the force to be reckoned with and took the Yankees to the WS. Judge couldn’t perform. So with Soto to the Mets, what would happen in 2025?

It’s mostly a New York Mets vs. New York Yankees battle if sources are to be believed in Soto’s sweepstakes. What do you think will happen? Let us know!
