“Why is it that you guys like calling all Northerners ‘Aboki’? It is not fair” – Hausa lady quǝries the Nigerian public (VIDEO)

A Northerner lady has questioned the Nigerian public on why they address everyone from the north as aboki.

Aboki which loosely translates to “my friend” in the hausa language, has become a general term used to address every northerner who comes to the South-western or Eastern states.

However, the word has acquired other meanings which are often times demeaning and derogatory; in fact, it is used to insult a slow person.

It was this that made the lady admonish others from referring to them by the name, because it rates them as second-class citizens of the country.

Here are some of the responses to her plea:

~Big Tosin~: If Dey call u Aboki for Lagos and u no be Hausa ur own don finish ????

iheloghara_indomitable: Relax dear as all tribes have their nicknames. Hausa are called Aboki by Yoruba….Ndi ugu by the Igbos. Yoruba Ndi Ofe mma nu. Igbo are called yamiri by the Hausas….Omo yibo by the Yorubas so be calming down ????

Filip Gustavsson: racism and tribalism is worse here in Nigeria/africa than anywhere in the world. but we’re the first ones to cry when abused by the whites.

D.H.S: we are aboki and still owns the millions????dangote is also aboki so dear no mind them,na we get the politicians
