Huawei is said to have a successor to its premium Mate X2 foldable phablet in the works. Its latest leak purports to spill more details on its allegedly advanced rear camera system, while also dropping hints at potentially positive traits inherited from its predecessor’s top-end main display. Then again, it seems its OEM has had a change of heart regarding its secondary display.
The Huawei Mate X3 is tipped to become the world’s latest foldable smartphone with a periscope zoom lens on its launch, and yet boast improved portability compared to its predecessor the X2. At least, that is the impression garnered from the latest Digital Chat Station post on the supposedly upcoming flagship phablet.
The famous leaker also now asserts that the periscope lens will have an IMX351 sensor, accompanied by an IMX766-based main shooter and an ultrawide-angle lens with the IMX688 behind it. Accordingly, the Mate X3 is not exactly tipped to blow anyone away with the latest imaging technology, and will probably look to its new in-house XMAGE logo to enhance what it does have, rather than the Leica branding of the quad-rear-camera X2.
On the other hand, the X3 is also now backed to retain the form-factor it shares with its predecessor, not to mention others such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 – as well as its series’ potentially commendable lack of punch-hole camera to perturb its allegedly “large” 2K main display.
It may still have a selfie camera, however, located on its cover display. It will be a single shooter with a mid-line orientation, whereas that of the Mate X2 was pill-shaped and corner-mounted. Therefore, that may be how the “X3” will distinguish itself from its previous generation – that and the rumored upgrade to satellite connectivity.
