\n\tA Broadway<\/a> musical adaptation of the beloved movie 10 Things I Hate About You<\/em> is coming to the Great White Way next summer. On Monday morning (Aug. 17), producer Mike Bosner announced that the show will begin performances on Aug. 17, 2027, with a book co-written by Golden Globe winner Lena Dunham (Girls<\/em>) and award-winning playwright Jessica Huang (Mother of Exiles<\/em>).<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition, Grammy nominee Carly Rae Jepsen<\/a> will team up with Grammy-winner Ethan Gruska (boygenius) to write the project\u2019s music and lyrics, with Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon (MJ The Musical<\/em>) on hand as director and choreographer and Grammy winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal<\/em>) on board for music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations.<\/p>\n

\n\tLike the original 1999 film that launched the careers of Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Heath Ledger \u2014\u00a0a clever, modern retelling of Shakespeare\u2019s 1594 play The Taming of the Shrew<\/em> \u2014\u00a0the musical will take viewers back to the halls of Padua High, where amidst \u201ccrushes, cliques, and teenage angst, two sisters set out to define themselves on their own terms,\u201d according to a release announcing the project. \u201cThis rebellion new musical is about growing up, discovering yourself, and refusing to live by others\u2019 expectations.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe original famously featured late actor Ledger serenading Stiles on the football field with a sweet, croony cover of Frankie Valli\u2019s Billboard Hot 100 1967 No. 2 smash \u201cCan\u2019t Take My Eyes Off You,\u201d beginning with an elegant fireman\u2019s pole slide and exploding into a full-on musical epic thanks to an assist by the school marching band.<\/p>\n
