But at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/tag\/ifa\/\">IFA Berlin 2026<\/a> consumer electronics trade show, the company showed a proof of concept that actually looks production-ready.<\/p>\n<p>The Project AeroBlade Concept laptop is built around a new active cooling technology from <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.froresystems.com\/\" data-event-click=\"{\"element\":\"ExternalLink\",\"outgoingURL\":\"https:\/\/www.froresystems.com\/\"}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.froresystems.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frore Systems<\/a> that uses air pressure\u2014instead of fans, heatsinks, and large vents\u2014to expel heat from the CPU. That means thinner laptop designs and quieter operation, and the space savings allow for larger batteries. Frore is known for its liquid-cooling tech that\u2019s used in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/tag\/data-centers\/\">data centers<\/a>, but the AirJet is designed for consumer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/tag\/computers\/\">computers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed the Lenovo Active Flow Thermal Solution, the AirJet module pulls ambient air that\u2019s inside the laptop to create 2,000 Pascals of back pressure (around 124 miles per hour). This high-speed air is then spread onto a copper base layer through tiny jets in the AirJet module, which Frore claims will disrupt the <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.froresystems.com\/blog\/what-is-the-boundary-layer-and-how-does-it-affect-performance\" data-event-click=\"{\"element\":\"ExternalLink\",\"outgoingURL\":\"https:\/\/www.froresystems.com\/blog\/what-is-the-boundary-layer-and-how-does-it-affect-performance\"}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.froresystems.com\/blog\/what-is-the-boundary-layer-and-how-does-it-affect-performance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">boundary layer<\/a> that causes heat buildup and throttling. Without a boundary layer, the processor\u2019s heat is dissipated out the back. Lenovo had a motherboard sample from the AeroBlade concept laptop that showed four embedded AirJet modules, located along the top of the laptop.<\/p>\n<p>Frore says each AirJet module can create 10 times the back pressure of a regular laptop fan and can pull and expel air without needing many vents. Lenovo claims the Active Flow Thermal Solution uses the same power as a traditional fan, but it\u2019s debris- and water-resistant.<\/p>\n<p>While Lenovo may be the first to demo a laptop using AirJet, it\u2019s not an exclusive partnership, so we could see other laptop makers employ it.<\/p>\n<h2>So Light, It\u2019s Dreamy<\/h2>\n<figure>\n<p><span><picture><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Image may contain Electronics Hardware Printed Circuit Board Car Transportation and Vehicle\" loading=\"lazy\"   src=\"https:\/\/media.wired.com\/photos\/6a98a8573546f162bf781fea\/master\/w_1600%2Cc_limit\/Lenovo-Project-Aeroblade-AirJet-Board-Module.jpg\"><\/picture><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<p>The circuit board is surrounded by AirJet Mini modules.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>With its typical, unassuming laptop design, nothing about the AeroBlade Concept screams that it\u2019s a concept. But at 10 mm thin and weighing 1.8 pounds, you can\u2019t help but think there\u2019s something special. With a magnesium-aluminum body, it\u2019s so lightweight that it makes some of the current lightest laptops, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/review\/asus-zenbook-a14\/\">Asus Zenbook A14<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/review\/macbook-air-m5\/\">MacBook Air<\/a>, feel downright heavy. I spent longer than I should have just lifting it up and down, and marveling at its portability.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-journey-hook=\"grid-wrapper\" data-testid=\"BodyWrapper\">\n<p>I expected Lenovo to show a non-functioning sample or one I couldn\u2019t touch, but what I demoed felt like a production unit. Indeed, Lenovo told me it\u2019s a \u201cvery mature and refined product in terms of sample stability.\u201d The laptop has an OLED screen and USB-C ports that support Thunderbolt 4.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><picture><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Image may contain Computer Electronics Laptop and Pc\" loading=\"lazy\"   src=\"https:\/\/media.wired.com\/photos\/6a9998959fdd87675fe2cf18\/master\/w_1600%2Cc_limit\/04_ThinkBook-Project-Aeroblade-POC.jpg\"><\/picture><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Courtesy of Lenovo<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The engineering sample uses an Intel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/intel-amd-qualcomm-nvidia-new-cpus-and-gpus-ces-2025\/\">Lunar Lake<\/a> processor, which suggests the cooling tech can support higher-performance CPUs, though with support for up to 20 watts of thermal design power (TDP), it may not suit really demanding machines (there is a more powerful version of the AirJet, called the AirJet Pro). We won\u2019t fully know how effective this design will be until it\u2019s in the real world. If it goes into production, Lenovo says that class of chipset won\u2019t necessarily be what\u2019s inside, or whether the AirJet tech will end up in a future variant of the company\u2019s existing laptops and mini PCs.<\/p>\n<p>Lenovo didn\u2019t reveal any details like battery life, pricing, or availability. Like its rollable gaming laptop that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/lenovo-legion-pro-gaming-laptop-ultrawide-rollable-screen\/\">debuted at CES 2026<\/a>, Project Swan expands horizontally from 14 to 17 inches with the push of a button. The company says it took what it learned from previous projects and refined it. While Lenovo mentions it&#8217;s suitable for travel in its press release, at 3.5 pounds, it&#8217;s noticeably heavy. That means this model has fewer motors, but they\u2019re more durable.
