If you follow the draft the way Draft Diamonds readers do, you already know the problem. The top 100 names get covered to death while thousands of college football players go through entire careers essentially invisible. No profile, no grade, no story anyone bothered to tell.<\/p>\n
Daelan Pinsky, a sport management and sport analytics student at Syracuse University and a former scouting intern for Syracuse Football, spent his summer doing something about it. His site, ScoutSZN (scoutszn.com<\/a>), launched July 28 and covers every FBS player in America. That\u2019s 15,000+ players across all 138 programs, each with a 0 to 10 grade, a floor and ceiling, full college stats, transfer history, depth chart placement, recruiting background, verified socials, and news.<\/p>\n The idea didn\u2019t come from a business plan. It came from a headache.<\/p>\n \u201cI was building a scouting report for my internship and I found it so tedious,\u201d Pinsky said. \u201cI had to go to so many different sites and try to pull all these data points together. There wasn\u2019t one site that had it all, so I decided to just build it flat out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n One player from that early work stuck with him: Vincent Firenze, out of FCS Dayton. He transferred to Wake Forest this past offseason.<\/p>\n \u201cI watched a few of his games and he was just an absolute beast all over the field,\u201d Pinsky said. \u201cThen I look up everything and there\u2019s not a lot about him. I was like, you know what? That\u2019s a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Pinsky has interned at three sports agencies on top of his scouting background, and ScoutSZN sits right where those two worlds collide. Hawaii QB Micah Alejado (7.5), Temple TE Peter Clarke (7.4), and Boise State EDGE Jayden Virgin-Morgan (7.1) all have full profiles with the same treatment as Arch Manning, who sits at 9.6 at the top of the board. He also points to guys like Harvey Dyson, a former highly touted recruit who led the AAC in sacks and is now working on a comeback at NC State, as exactly the type of player who falls through the cracks.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s so many players that just go unnoticed, and it\u2019s so tough to eventually make it to the league, \u201d Pinsky said. \u201cHaving every single kid in all of FBS gives them a platform to show who they are. And if they\u2019re not a fan of their grade, they now have a way to prove themselves.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The site also tracks NIL representation, mapping which of 300+ agencies rep which players, something basically nobody else does publicly. It was also the hardest data to get.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of college players are reluctant to post about their agency unless it\u2019s a big name,\u201d he said. \u201cFor the smaller guys it\u2019s tough. You\u2019re sifting through Instagram and Twitter bios, looking through tagged photos and posts.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The signature feature is what separates ScoutSZN from every hot take account on your timeline. Before Week 0 on August 28, the entire board freezes. Every grade gets timestampedand locked with a cryptographic hash so nothing can be quietly edited after the fact. In April, the frozen board gets publicly scored against the actual NFL Draft. Hits and misses, both on the record.<\/p>\n That\u2019s also his answer to the obvious question: why should a scout or agent take a college kid\u2019s grades seriously?<\/p>\n \u201cLook, I\u2019m a twenty year old kid in college. Obviously I don\u2019t have the reputation a seasoned scouting vet who\u2019s worked for NFL teams has,\u201d Pinsky said. \u201cBut that\u2019s the whole point. Once my grades lock on August 28, it\u2019s going to show the progression of players through the year. There are so many unknowns in football. That\u2019s what makes it exhilarating to evaluate.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Building it took the whole summer, and there was no team behind it. Just one student grading every player individually and refining a methodology as he went.<\/p>\n Beyond the grades, the site includes Scoutle, a daily player guessing game, a mock draft simulator, side by side player comparisons, and printable one page scouting sheets for every player.<\/p>\n So here\u2019s the invitation. Go to scoutszn.com<\/a>, look up a player you think the world is sleeping on, and pull his card. Then find Pinsky at @scoutszn_<\/a> on X and Instagram<\/a> and tell him what he got wrong.<\/p>\n \u201cI want feedback. That\u2019s the main thing,\u201d he said. \u201cPull a card and tell me if I\u2019m wrong. And I want to show that any twenty year old can achieve big things.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The board locks August 28.
