<\/span> Charli XCX\u2019s new album takes its title from a lyric in her track \u201cSS26.\u201d \u201cI never said I was making a rock album,\u201d Charli XCX posted on Instagram in May, just before releasing her single \u201cRock Music.\u201d On July 24, we\u2019ll find out just what kind of album she actually made.<\/p>\n The cover of\u00a0Music, Fashion, Film\u00a0<\/em>features a new photo of three giants in each of those fields: the Velvet Underground\u2019s John Cale (who worked with Charli on the Wuthering Heights track \u201cHouse\u201d), designer Marc Jacobs, and Martin Scorsese.\u00a0 Aidan Zamiri, who also shot the \u201cRock Music\u201d music video, took the photo.\u00a0<\/p>\n A full track list hasn\u2019t been announced, but her album will include the two songs she\u2019s released so far: \u201cRock Music\u201d and\u00a0\u00a0\u201cSS26,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0both of which include prominent guitar.\u00a0 \u201cI think the dancefloor is dead, so now we\u2019re making rock music,\u201d she\u00a0sings<\/a>\u00a0on the former song. But she\u2019s suggested that lyric shouldn\u2019t be taken literally,\u00a0writing<\/a>\u00a0on Instagram, \u201cI\u2019m not gonna explain where I was coming from with \u2018Rock Music,\u2019 but all i know is that things can be funny, earnest, sincere, and joyful all at the same time and that\u2019s what i feel about a lot of the things i make.\u201d<\/p>\n The album takes its title from a lyric in the wry, wistful \u201cSS26\u201d: \u201cWhen the world is gonna end, no hope for any of it,\u201d she sings. \u201cYeah, we\u2019re walking on a runway that goes straight to hell\/ Nothing\u2019s gonna save us, not music, fashion, or film.\u201d<\/p>\n In April, Charli\u00a0told\u00a0<\/a>Vogue that she was changing her sound.\u00a0 \u201cIf I\u2019d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad,\u201d she said, \u201cbut what\u2019s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.\u201d Producer A.G. Cook told Vogue that the sonic shift was deeply felt. \u201cIt\u2019s not just this flex of, \u2018Oh, I did this other album,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cShe\u2019s really responding to a feeling that a lot of people have in 2026 of there being so much, almost too much.\u201d<\/p>\n In February, Charli released\u00a0Wuthering Heights<\/em>, her soundtrack to Emerald Fennell\u2019s film adaptation. She\u2019s been busy with a new career in acting, with three releases already this year: the A24 mockumentary\u00a0The Moment<\/em>, which she conceived, produced, and stars in as a fictionalized version of herself; the\u00a0horror remake\u00a0Faces of Death<\/em>; and the comedy\u00a0Erupcja<\/em>. in She also co-stars in the erotic thriller\u00a0I Want Your Sex<\/em>, which opens July 31, a week after the album drops.<\/p>\n
