The firm has still yet to elaborate further on its plans.<\/p>\n<p>And slowly, we\u2019re starting to hear the thoughts of other organisations, like Ubisoft, who said it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2026\/07\/it-will-not-disturb-the-industry-much-major-publisher-doesnt-believe-ps5s-disc-debacle-will-change-anything\">doesn\u2019t expect the decision to disturb the industry much<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aEWBnmqu5xQ\">IGN<\/a>, Houser said he doesn\u2019t \u201cpersonally care\u201d about the move, but said \u201cif people want [physical games], companies should make them\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know that I care, but if people want that, I think companies should provide it. But I don\u2019t know that I personally care. And I also think that the ability to update games \u2013 as critical as people are of digital releases \u2013 the ability to update and fix problems in games has been really useful for the quality of games.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Houser was joined by long-time collaborator Lazlow Jones during the discussion, who noted how rewarding it was launching Absurd Ventures\u2019 aforementioned comic book <em>American Caper<\/em> in physical format.<\/p>\n<p>He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve worked in digital together for a lot of years and then making a physical product of a comic book is a different creative process, but it\u2019s also just really fulfilling to have a physical thing so you can say, \u2018Look, we made a thing.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<p>Recent Circana data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2026\/07\/physical-game-fans-wont-like-this-new-data-about-us-ps5-sales\">revealed the dwindling interest in physical games<\/a> in the US, where just seven boxed PlayStation games have exceeded 100k copies in 2026, maxing out at no more than 275k units.<\/p>\n<p>According to historical records, as many as 100 physical PlayStation games exceeded 100k copies during the same period in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>But, no matter how small, there is clearly a passionate audience for physical games that remains.<\/p>\n<p>The great irony is that Houser\u2019s former company Rockstar will be among the first to do away with physical media, because its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/grand_theft_auto_6\">GTA 6<\/a> will controversially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2026\/06\/gta-6-physical-edition-doesnt-come-with-discs-its-a-code-in-the-box\">launch as a code in a box<\/a> later this year.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p>[source <a title=\"External Link: https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aEWBnmqu5xQ\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aEWBnmqu5xQ\">youtube.com<\/a>]<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/users\/4271\/photo\/0\/avatar.jpg?v=1709294233\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Entertainment Sammy Barker\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>As the Editor of Push Square, Sammy has over 15 years of experience analysing the world of PlayStation, from PS3 through PS5 and everything in between.
