{"id":922578,"date":"2026-07-26T07:16:42","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T12:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/26\/5-dead-11-confirmed-cases-in-plateau-cholera-outbreak\/"},"modified":"2026-07-26T07:16:42","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T12:16:42","slug":"5-dead-11-confirmed-cases-in-plateau-cholera-outbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/26\/5-dead-11-confirmed-cases-in-plateau-cholera-outbreak\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Dead, 11 Confirmed Cases In Plateau Cholera Outbreak"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>News Investigators\/ Nicholas Baamlong, Plateau\u2019s Commissioner for Health says the state has recorded 11 confirmed cases of cholera, five deaths, and 53 suspected cases .<\/p>\n<p>Mr Baamlong, who disclosed this to journalists on Sunday in Jos said the confirmed and suspected cases were reported in Pushit, Mangu 1 and Mangu 2 communities in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA).<\/p>\n<p>According to Mr Baamlong, the state ministry of health\u00a0 is intensifying public health interventions to contain the outbreak, prevent further spread, and reduce its impact on affected communities.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that\u00a0 the state \u00a0had taken decisive actions to control the outbreak and protect its citizens via the deployment of additional Response Teams (RRTs) to the affected wards, scaling up of treatment centres and isolation capacity and the emergency procurement of Rapid Diagnostic Tests Kits, intravenous fluids and essential drugs.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner\u00a0 further said that the ministry had \u00a0activated an \u00a0Incident Management System (IMS), for a comprehensive and multi sectorial response to the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe activation of the IMS ensures a coordinated, efficient, and accountable response structure in line with national and international emergency response frameworks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Baamlong explained that cholera was\u00a0 an acute diarrhoeal disease caused by consuming food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.<\/p>\n<p>He urged residents of Mangu LGA and neighbouring communities to remain vigilant and take\u00a0 preventive measures, including drinking safe water, maintaining proper hand hygiene, avoiding open defecation, and ensuring proper waste disposal.<\/p>\n<p>He also advised residents to promptly report suspected cases of cholera to the nearest healthcare facility for immediate attention.<\/p>\n<p>While reaffirming\u00a0 the state government\u2019s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of residents, Mr Baamlong called on development partners and other stakeholders to support ongoing response efforts.<\/p>\n<p>NAN<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newsinvestigatorsng.com\/5-dead-11-confirmed-cases-in-plateau-cholera-outbreak\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News Investigators\/ Nicholas Baamlong, Plateau\u2019s Commissioner for Health says the state has recorded 11 confirmed cases of cholera, five deaths, and 53 suspected cases .
