This is the third year the 17-year-old has competed in the event, which has been hosted by E.D. Feehan high school for four decades. (Michelle Berg, Saskatoon StarPhoenix)<\/p>\n<h3>June 6: Fun at the festival<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/0606-news-childrens-festival-1_303521194_871749.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/0606-news-childrens-festival-1_303521194_871749.jpg\" alt=\"Children's Festival toucan puppet\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thomas Carroll held his son, Lucian, on his shoulders so he could reach a toucan puppet during a roving performance by Adam Francis Proulx and his Bird-Brained Puppets at the Children\u2019s Festival of Saskatchewan. The long-running annual event ran June 4-7 at Kinsmen Park. (Michelle Berg, Saskatoon StarPhoenix)<\/p>\n<h3>June 10: A water warning<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/0601-news-standalone-weather-1_303413054_564559.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/0601-news-standalone-weather-1_303413054_564559.jpg\" alt=\"paddleboarder on the South Saskatchewan RIver in Saskatoon\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A paddleboarder on the South Saskatchewan River took advantage of some warm weather. The Saskatoon Fire Department, however, was warning locals of rising speeds and heights due to an <a href=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/news\/local-news\/answered-prayer-for-saskatoons-prairie-lily-as-gardiner-dam-set-to-increase-outflow-fill-river\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">increase in water flow<\/a>. According to the SFD, the river could rise by about two feet. (Michelle Berg, Saskatoon StarPhoenix)<\/p>\n<h3>June 11: Help for Fry Society<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/0611-news-e-fry-6_303621736_008675.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/0611-news-e-fry-6_303621736_008675.jpg\" alt=\"Elizabeth Fry Society funding announcement\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Fry Society executive director Nicole Obrigavitch and Community Safety Minister Michael Weger attended a news conference at the Western Development Museum. The province announced $918,000 in funding over two years to help women reintegrate after incarceration. Lions on June 13, celebrated with fans. (Michelle Berg, Saskatoon StarPhoenix)<\/p>\n<h3>June 23: Rock Your Roots walk<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/0620-news-rock-your-roots-1-2_303817602_03c146.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thestarphoenix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/0620-news-rock-your-roots-1-2_303817602_03c146.jpg\" alt=\"Grand Entry at Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dancers participated in the grand entry during the Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation at Victoria Park on June 19. The annual event, organized by Reconciliation Saskatoon, brings the community together to honour residential school survivors and recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day, which was on June 21. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the walk. (Michelle Berg, Saskatoon StarPhoenix)<\/p>\n<h3>June 29: Butterfly exhibit opens for season<\/h3>\n<p>The Prairie Butterfly House at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo has reopened for the season. The exhibit allows visitors to walk among dozens of butterfly species in a tropical setting during the warmer months.
