Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface played his first game for Bayer Leverkusen since returning to the club in July, Soccernet.ng<\/a> reports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u200bThe Nigerian marksman spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen, but he was restricted by injury problems throughout his time there. After a grueling year, he returned to Leverkusen this July.<\/p>\n \u200bBoniface was the first player to report to the club for pre-season training, making a clear statement of intent regarding his future.<\/p>\n \u200bBayer Leverkusen returned to action on Saturday afternoon for a friendly game against Baumberg, a side competing in the fifth tier of German football.<\/p>\n \u200bDie Werkself were expected to make light work of their opponents, and they did exactly that. Although the friendly was played over 70 minutes rather than the standard 90, the former Bundesliga champions still managed to net seven goals.<\/p>\n \u200bBoniface did not start the match, as the new Bayer Leverkusen coach, Carles Mart\u00ednez, opted to use two different starting elevens for the first and second halves.<\/p>\n \u200bBy the end of the first half, Leverkusen were already leading by three goals, courtesy of strikes from Afonso Moreira, who netted twice, and Christian Kofane.<\/p>\n \u200bVictor Boniface entered the fray for the second half and immediately joined in compounding Baumberg’s defensive woes.
