One ultimate<\/em> bucket list experience has loomed larger than the rest since I was 7 years old: heli-skiing, which was inspired by my father\u2019s love for seeking out our own tracks in the mountain snow on family ski trips that no one else had discovered, even if that meant hiking up cliffs with gear strapped to our backs to find untouched terrain. I finally got to cross off heli-skiing during an epic getaway at Chalet Hibou<\/a> in France. After all, what better way to test my true thirst for adventure than by tackling Europe\u2019s off-piste steepest and deepest snow?<\/p>\n

The seven-room rustic yet modern chalet sets the stage for an outdoor adventure anytime of year, and is currently available for full property buyouts (prices start at $11,360 per night for a private chalet buyout for 14 guests including all gear, meals, beverages and pre-arrival planning with an Eleven Experience<\/a> Manager). <\/p>\n

What Not To Miss: <\/strong><\/h3>\n

The heli-skiing at Chalet Hibou is one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. First of all, the Chalet arranges every step of the process for you, including planning a customized itinerary before you arrive that takes into account your comfort level and skiing ability, providing all the needed equipment from ski boots to hand warmers to avalanche packs. The guides are experienced, personable, fun and put guests at ease through their deep knowledge of the mountains. Before the trip, I had no idea how to operate an avalanche pack or duck beneath a descending helicopter, but they teach you everything you need to know. It\u2019s also the most unique and special terrain I\u2019ve ever skied on, with epic views of the surrounding Alps and powdery conditions that your skis disappear beneath. For skiers who prefer to stay on the ground, the resort is in a perfect spot to experience an abundance of ski hills just a short drive from the village, all with that je ne sais quoi<\/em> charm that makes a French ski town so idyllic. <\/p>\n

Another absolute must during your stay is dinner at the property\u2019s renovated historic farmhouse, just a short hike up the mountain from the Chalet, where you can enjoy canap\u00e9s and watch the sunset in front of a roaring bonfire before moving inside for an intimate candlelight dinner prepared by Hibou\u2019s personal chef, which includes signature dishes like house-made fondue and perfectly seasoned steaks.
