As the team inches closer to training camp, and battles for starting spots still underway, ESPN ranked the Eagles projected starting lineup as the No. 2 best in the NFL in 2026. The Eagles took second place, behind only the Rams — getting the No. 1 edge rusher, Myles Garrett, this offseason certainly helped them take the first spot. Among the projected Eagles starters at the safety position were Andrew Mukuba, who’s heading into his second season coming off a major injury, and Marcus Epps, the often overlooked veteran who has earned Vic Fangio’s trust. When ranking the overall starting lineup, this group was considered the weakest by ESPN’s Mike Clay.

A look at the Eagles’ players over 30, and their succession plan for each – PhillyVoice
Succession plan: The Eagles selected a pair of offensive tackles on Day 3 of the 2025 draft in Myles Hinton and Cameron Williams who they believed had “starter” ceilings. Neither showed enough as rookies to believe they could be a realistic succession plan for Johnson. In the 2026 draft, many (self included) believed that the Eagles would trade up in the first round for an offensive tackle prospect. They did trade up, but it was for a wide receiver, which was more of an immediate need. In Round 3 (pick 68), the Eagles selected Markel Bell, who they will hope shows a reasonable path to starting at RT down the line. It was at least somewhat encouraging that Bell was working with the first-team offense during voluntary OTAs, which Johnson opted to skip. For now, we’re in “wait and see” mode on Bell. If he does appear to be a legitimate succession candidate, then that would be extraordinary value for a third-round pick. If he shows poorly as a rookie, then the Eagles will have to consider eschewing their “half measure” approach to replacing Johnson with more of a “full measure.”

Eagles 2026 most important list: Cooper DeJean – NBCSP
How did Cooper DeJean follow up a pick-6 in Super Bowl LIX on his 22nd birthday? He was an All-Pro in Year 2 of his career. DeJean, 23, is entering the third season of his young NFL career and is already one of the very best defensive backs in the NFL. He mostly plays nickel but thrived when he lined up outside this year and will get a chance to also play some safety in 2026. He’ll probably be really good there too. DeJean is just too good to take off the field, which is why he played outside cornerback in the Eagles’ base package last season in place of Adoree’ Jackson. But after the Eagles added Riq Woolen in free agency to shore up the CB2 spot, the plan is for DeJean to play safety in the base package this season before sliding to his normal post at nickel. “It’s not that easy,” DeJean said this spring. “I’m not just going out there and playing it at a high level. There’s still things to learn, and that’s what OTAs are for.

Cooper DeJean prepares for third year in Vic Fangio’s defense – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
The more you know, the better you play. That’s the approach Cooper DeJean is taking in his third year with the Eagles, a do-it-all weapon for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. DeJean is a movable chess piece used by Fangio as an outside cornerback, an inside slot cover man, and a safety. If you think back to the days of Brian Dawkins as an Eagle and the incredible tools he brought to Jim Johnson’s defenses, you can better grasp what DeJean means for Fangio: A matchup piece who wins wherever he lines up. Fangio announced early in the spring that DeJean would be the starter for the Eagles at safety in base personnel packages and then would move to slot cornerback in nickel personnel. This is something that DeJean tasted last season when he played 139 snaps at safety (685 snaps at nickel cornerback and 245 snaps at outside cornerback), adding to his all-in impact in the secondary.

Execs, coaches, scouts rank top NFL tight ends for 2026 – ESPN
Also receiving votes: T.J. Perhaps being a part of one of the worst defenses in NFL history provided some narrative that Williams will have to overcome. The most shocking element of this is the “lowest ranking” listed which, if not obvious, means the lowest ranking Williams received from the group polled by ESPN. Someone literally did not rank him. How is that possible?

Which role will Rasul Douglas play in the Washington Commanders defense? – Hogs Haven
That number could very well be a good baseline for how much Douglas will see the field. In fact, Douglas has never logged less than 50% of a team’s defensive snaps since his rookie season (48%). One of the three safeties would most likely end up seeing reduced snaps in this scenario which would be a departure from the Vikings model, but with the addition of Douglas, the cornerback room may now be the stronger of the two position groups. If injuries or poor play were to strike the Commanders secondary, Douglas could easily see his role and importance to the Commanders defense increase.

Defensive line rankings from ESPN have to sting NY Giants fans – Big Blue View
New York Giants fans are rightly concerned about whether or not the team has enough quality on the interior of the defensive line. That’s why newly-released rankings from ESPN of the top 10 defensive tackles in the NFL have to be painful. Two former Giants stars, Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence are on that list. Williams, in fact, was named No. 1 on a list compiled using input from NFL executive, coaches, and scouts. Lawrence, coming off a down season, still checked in at No. 7.

7 big questions ahead of NFL training camp – SB Nation
Can A.J. Brown develop an immediate rapport with Drake Maye? One of the biggest trades of the offseason finally got done, and the idea of giving Drake Maye the deep threat he’s so desperately needed is a fascinating proposition. That said, just because it looks good on paper doesn’t mean this is going to be a match made in heaven. We saw last year that Brown isn’t afraid of piping up when he thinks something is being done incorrectly. It takes a strong quarterback to balance keeping a superstar receiver happy and executing on a game plan — which is something we haven’t seen Maye need to tackle yet. Their burgeoning relationship will determine if the Patriots can be a perennial Super Bowl threat, or if the trade ends up being subtraction by addition.

…

Social Media Information:

BGN Manager: Follow Brandon Lee Gowton on Twitter | BlueSky | Threads

BGN Radio Twitter: Follow @BGN_Radio

The Feed post of the day

Each day, we highlight a BGN community post here in this space.
