The 2026 Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) kicks off later this month, and Nigeria\u2019s Super Falcons are set to compete for an 11th continental crown, Soccernet.ng<\/a> reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u200bThe team\u2019s last outing in Morocco saw them overcome significant challenges to defeat the hosts. This year\u2019s tournament promises to be even more significant\u2014and historic.<\/p>\n

It marks the first time the WAFCON will feature 16 teams, a four-team rise from the previous 12. And crucially, it serves as the qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n

\u200bCoach Justin Madugu is expected to name his 24-woman squad<\/a> in the coming days, with the roster likely to feature the core group of stars who competed in the previous tournament.<\/p>\n

When Will Super Falcons Camp Open?<\/h3>\n

\u200bThe Super Falcons will open their training camp on July 15 in Mohammedia<\/a>, a coastal city in Morocco. <\/p>\n

The team will remain there for one week before relocating to Rabat, where they will be based for at least the duration of the group stage. Any further movement will depend on their progress in the knockout rounds.<\/p>\n

\u200bHaving played two friendly matches against Cameroon last month<\/a>, Coach Madugu and his squad are not expected to schedule further warm-up matches. Instead, the focus will remain strictly on fine-tuning their tactical approach for the tournament.<\/p>\n

\u200bWhen is Nigeria’s First Game at WAFCON 2026?<\/h3>\n

\u200bThe 2026 WAFCON officially begins in July, with Algeria facing Senegal in the opening match in Casablanca.<\/p>\n

\u200bNigeria has been drawn into Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi. The Super Falcons begin their campaign on July 28 against Malawi at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca. <\/p>\n

They will face Zambia three days later, followed by their final group stage match against Egypt on August 5.<\/p>\n

\u200bGiven the depth and quality of the current squad, Coach Madugu will be expected to navigate the group stage successfully. The team\u2019s primary target is at least a top-four finish, which would guarantee their qualification for the 2027 World Cup.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
