Stefan de Vrij is hoping he can return to being an “important player” with Panathinaikos after calling time on his career with Inter at the end of last season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
De Vrij ended his eight-year association with Serie A giants Inter and moved to Greece at the end of last month after falling out of favour under Cristian Chivu.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 34-year-old made 296 appearances across all competitions for the\u00a0Nerazzurri, winning nine major honours which include three Serie A and three Coppa Italia crowns.<\/p>\n
However, during Inter’s Scudetto-winning campaign in 2025-26, De Vrij only featured 20 times across all competitions and spent much of the campaign as an unused substitute.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But after joining\u00a0Panathinaikos, who have not won the Greek top-flight since 2009-10, De Vrij believes he still has plenty to give at the top level despite being at the end of his career.<\/p>\n
“My contract was expiring, and I wanted to go back to being an important player somewhere,”\u00a0De Vrij said, as quoted by LaLazioSiamoNoi.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, last year I didn’t play much at Inter.”<\/p>\n
