Today I\u00a0want\u00a0to share\u00a0a\u00a0difficult\u00a0update\u00a0regarding\u00a0Bungie.\u00a0<\/p>\n
We have made the decision to reduce Bungie\u2019s workforce, affecting\u00a0a\u00a0significant number\u00a0of employees, including most of the Destiny team and some Marathon team members.\u00a0There\u00a0are\u00a0also reductions across SIE teams that support Bungie\u2019s operations.\u00a0Those\u00a0impacted\u00a0at\u00a0Bungie and\u00a0within\u00a0SIE\u00a0are\u00a0being informed today.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is painful news,\u00a0especially for\u00a0talented\u00a0colleagues\u00a0whose\u00a0roles have been eliminated. This decision was\u00a0made only after extensive discussion and careful consideration, and I want to provide some context on how we arrived here.\u00a0Over the past several months, together with Bungie leadership, we\u00a0reviewed\u00a0the studio\u2019s long-term direction, development priorities, resource needs,\u00a0and role within our broader portfolio strategy.\u00a0We explored multiple alternatives before concluding that a reduction was necessary to align the studio\u2019s resources with its current priorities and long-term goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As Bungie recently shared in its\u00a0Destiny 2<\/em>\u00a0update, the studio\u00a0has begun a new journey\u00a0following the release of the\u00a0game\u2019s\u00a0final live-service\u00a0content update.\u00a0What Bungie has\u00a0accomplished\u00a0with\u00a0Destiny\u00a0<\/em>over the past decade has been truly remarkable. The franchise has left a lasting mark on players and the industry, and everyone who contributed to its success should be proud of what they helped create.\u00a0<\/p>\nMarathon\u00a0<\/em>remains\u00a0an important part of our\u00a0portfolio,\u00a0and we\u00a0will continue\u00a0to support the team as they build on the\u00a0strong foundation\u00a0established\u00a0in Season 1 and 2, and as they\u00a0work on incubation efforts\u00a0for future projects.\u00a0While\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0too early to discuss, we\u00a0are encouraged by\u00a0the creativity and opportunities that lie ahead.\u00a0<\/p>\nOur immediate priority is supporting affected employees through this transition. We are providing transition support and, where possible, working to\u00a0identify\u00a0opportunities across SIE and our global network of studios.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I want to\u00a0sincerely thank\u00a0every\u00a0affected\u00a0employee for their hard work, creativity, and contributions to Bungie, SIE, and the broader gaming community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With great sadness, we are announcing a reduction in force as we reorganize Bungie.<\/p>\n
As the leaders of Bungie, past and present, we recognize\u00a0<\/span>Destiny 2<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>fell short of expectations these past several years. Following our final content update to\u00a0<\/span>Destiny 2<\/em>, and with our future projects still in early incubation, we unfortunately could not continue operating at our previous size.<\/p>\nWe know this decision has a profound impact on the people affected, their families, friends, and teammates. While these changes are necessary to best position the studio now and for the future, that does not lessen the difficulty of this moment or the impact it has on those affected.<\/p>\n
Later, we will share more about that future with you all but today is not that day.<\/p>\n
Today, we wish to extend our gratitude and compassion to every member of the Bungie team who has been impacted and to those who remain.<\/p>\n
