Malaga ended their eight-year exodus from LaLiga after goals from\u00a0Chupe and\u00a0David Larrubia sealed a 2-1 win over\u00a0Almeria in the second leg of their promotion play-off final.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Having been relegated from the Spanish top flight in 2017-18 under Jose\u00a0Gonzalez,\u00a0Juan Francisco Funes led the team back to LaLiga following a goalless first leg.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both sides struggled to test either goalkeeper in the first half, but Malaga took the lead in the 65th minute when\u00a0Chupe poked the ball past\u00a0Andres Fernandez from close range.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It got even better for Malaga six minutes later after Chupe turned provider and\u00a0picked out\u00a0Larrubia, who took a touch before bending a brilliant finish into the top-left corner.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However,\u00a0Almeria hit back through\u00a0Leo Baptistao’s 76th-minute finish, but the match finished with both teams receiving red cards, the first of which went to Almeria substitute\u00a0Thalys.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Thalys was given a straight red card for raising his hands to\u00a0Izan Merino, while Malaga’s Aaron Ochoa was also dismissed for a second bookable offence in stoppage time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite the late drama, Malaga were able to hold on and will join\u00a0Racing Santander and\u00a0Deportivo La Coruna in LaLiga for the 2026-27 campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n
