Is that a coincidence? We\u2019ll find out.<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly given its background, Maverick Games is working on an open world racing game. It was founded by Mike Brown, a director on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/forza_horizon_5\">Forza Horizon 5<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The studio has a number of other high ranking ex-Forza creatives on its roster, so expectations are high here.<\/p>\n<p>However, while the studio was initially funded by Amazon, the retailer\u2019s decision to step aside from many of its game projects means it was forced to go independent. I\u2019m curious if it\u2019s going to have the budget to compete with Forza Horizon here.<\/p>\n<p>One interesting wrinkle is that the dev has hired <em>Skins<\/em> scribe Jamie Brittain to pen the racer\u2019s script, and it\u2019s been described as having \u201cnarrative\u201d elements in the past.<\/p>\n<p>In that sense, it sounds ambitious, because it\u2019s rare we get a racer with a genuinely engaging story, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, I think the State of Play connection here is a coincidence, but I wouldn\u2019t be massively surprised if Sony had decided to partner with the game.<\/p>\n<p>After all, the PS5 may be a home for the Forza Horizon games now, but outside of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/gran_turismo_7\">Gran Turismo 7<\/a> it doesn\u2019t really have a racer to call its own.<\/p>\n<p>Given how well Forza Horizon 5 sold on Sony\u2019s console, I suppose it\u2019s possible the manufacturer may have signed a marketing partnership with this game.<\/p>\n<p>All will be revealed next week, either way.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p>[source <a title=\"External Link: https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kAlw9rQLxFw\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kAlw9rQLxFw\">youtube.com<\/a>]<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/users\/4271\/photo\/0\/avatar.jpg?v=1709294233\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Sammy Barker\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>As the Editor of Push Square, Sammy has over 15 years of experience analysing the world of PlayStation, from PS3 through PS5 and everything in between.
