Uber did not disclose the number of employee cuts, but a spokesperson for the ride-hailing giant said they account for &#8220;well under 1%&#8221; of its 34,000 employees.<\/p>\n<p>In a note to affected teams, Hazelbaker, who was promoted to president and chief corporate affairs officer last month, said the layoffs aim to build a &#8220;more connected, modern, operationally excellent organization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some segments have become &#8220;complex and fragmented, with overlapping responsibilities, unclear ownership, and teams operating too far from the businesses and partners they support,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"RegularArticle-RelatedContent-1\">\n<h2>Read more CNBC tech news<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-06-03\/uber-cuts-23-of-people-division-as-new-president-takes-charge\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg<\/a> was the first to report the news. <\/p>\n<p>Uber joins a growing list of companies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/28\/wix-layoffs-ai-exchange-rates.html\">laying off employees<\/a>, with many firms citing the benefit of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/\"> artificial intelligence<\/a> in automating workloads and improving efficiency. <\/p>\n<p>The food delivery and ride-hailing company said the cuts did not result from AI.<\/p>\n<p>This week, Uber confirmed it put tiered caps on spending for employees&#8217; agentic tools, following a Bloomberg report.
