Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is on the verge of reaching his 100th cap with the Nigerian National team, and his Father, Chuka, is delighted his son has come this far, Soccernet.ng<\/a> reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Iwobi started as a youth international for England, winning the Victory Shield in 2011, before switching allegiance to play for Nigeria in 2015.<\/p>\n

His debut came in October 2015, when he played 33 minutes against DR Congo. The 30-year-old has gone on to play 98 more games for the Green and Whites, scoring ten goals. Alongside, Iwobi also has two bronze AFCON medals and a silver from the 2023 edition in Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n

Now on the brink of a century of appearances for the Super Eagles, the former Arsenal man could join Ahmed Musa, Vincent Enyeama and Joseph Yobo on Nigeria’s centurion list.<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview with NFF Media<\/a><\/strong>, Chuka Iwobi revealed his family had no idea Alex would play a hundred games for Nigeria when the switch was made in 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe remain ever grateful to the nation for the opportunity Alex has been given. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he made his debut in 2015, little did we know that this was the beginning of an amazing and incredible journey which would lead to him achieving the milestone of a hundred caps and with the potential of many more caps to come.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex loves playing for the nation and always gives his best. No one can ever question his commitment, devotion and patriotism while wearing the green-and-white. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been highs and lows over the years but he has emerged stronger from the experience of playing for the country. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe pray that he continues to excel and that the Super Eagles are able to repay the fans for their love and support,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cI first went to the Nigeria U23 team camp and felt at home. I had represented England at youth level but always felt Nigeria was home. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy father always told me to go out there and enjoy my football, and make the decision that I felt was good for me. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe was part of the decision but he didn\u2019t force it down on me.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter 10 years and eight months, I won\u2019t say I am a legend; I only see myself as a Super Eagles\u2019 player. It feels great to be looking at a 100th cap, and on a lighter note, I wish I can add another 100 caps. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have enjoyed my time with the Super Eagles,\u201d the one-time FA Cup winner concluded.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Iwobi will be looking forward to his feat when Nigeria take on Portugal on Wednesday evening. Whether or not he’ll be included in the starting lineup to face Cristiano Ronaldo’s side will be determined by head coach Eric Chelle.<\/p>\n

Roberto Martinez’s side will be without Rafael Leao who was sent off in their friendly against Chile after a physical altercation with an opponent.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
