QPCC’s win lifted them to 25 points from nine matches, leaving them five clear of Paragon Hockey Club and with the division’s best goal difference by a distance.

The table-toppers were clinical against Carib, with Adam Perriera striking twice, while Ethan Reynos and Darren Cowie also found the back of the net in a composed all-round display.

The result further strengthened QPCC’s grip on first place, as they remained unbeaten with eight wins and a draw, while Carib continued to struggle at the foot of the standings with no points from 10 outings. The day’s other Open Men encounter saw Malvern Hockey Club produce one of the more emphatic victories of the round, defeating Notre Dame 5-1.

Rene Mohammed led the way with a hat-trick of sorts, scoring in the fifth, 17th and 28th minutes, while Jeshajah Drayton added one in the 16th minute and Jovan Wren also got on the board from a penalty corner in the 22nd minute.

Notre Dame’s response came through Nicholas Whiteman, who converted a penalty stroke in the 20th minute. The victory kept Malvern in fourth place on 17 points, still within reach of the leaders if results go their way.

There was also a keenly contested 3-3 draw between Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force. Jordan Reynos struck twice for TTPS, scoring from a penalty corner in the first minute and later from the penalty stroke spot in the 23rd minute, while Daniel Byer added another in the 12th minute from a penalty corner.

TTDF answered through Mickell Pierre, who scored from a penalty corner in the ninth minute, and Shaquille Daniel, who levelled matters in the 19th minute. The result allowed Police to stay in the hunt near the top, sitting third on 20 points, while Defence Force remained fifth on 16.

Paragon and QPCC II also shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Joel Daniel scored both goals for Paragon, converting penalty corners in the 11th and 29th minutes, while Aiden Elias and Alexander Rowe replied for QPCC II. The draw kept Paragon second on 21 points, three ahead of Police, while QPCC II remained sixth on 12.

In the Open Women’s division, Harvard Checkers defeated Magnolias II 3-1, with Patrice Padmore scoring twice and Janaia Thomas also on target. Captain Kimberly Wellington got the only goal for Magnolias II, converting a penalty stroke.

Notre Dame also enjoyed a productive day, blanking Magnolias 3-0. The women’s standings still have Paragon Hockey Club on top with a perfect 24 points from eight wins, followed by Magnolia Hockey Club on 21 and Harvard Checkers on 16.

In Trinity Men’s action, QPCC also came through 3-1 against Magnolias II, with Adam Perreira, Jordan Vieira and Aidan Elias all scoring for the Parkites. The result helped QPCC stay top of the Trinity Men table on 15 points, ahead of Paragon on 12 and the TTPS pair on nine.

With the business end of the outdoor league now taking shape, QPCC’s commanding form in the Open Men’s division remains the headline act. They have been hard to catch all season, and on current evidence they are not easing their grip anytime soon.

(Sunday)

Open Men

Malvern 5 (Rene Mohammed 5th, 17th, 28th, Jeshajah Drayton 16th, Jovan Wren 22nd penalty corner) vs Notre Dame 1 (Nicholas Whiteman 20th penalty stroke)

TTPS 3 (Jordan Reynos 1st penalty cornwer, 23rd penalty stroke, Daniel Byer 12th penalty corner) vs TTDF 3 (Mickell Pierre 9th penalty corner, Shaquille Daniel 19th)

QPCC 4 (Adam Perriera 9th, 21st, Ethan Reynos 11th, Darren Cowie 23rd penalty stroke) vs Carib Hockey Club 0

Paragon 2 (Joel Daniel 11th, 29th penalty corners, Kiel Murray) vs QPCC II 2 (Aiden Elias 4th penalty corner, Alexander Rowe 16th)

Open Women

Harvard Checkers 3 (Patrice Padmore 2, Janaia Thomas 14th) vs Magnolias II 1 (Kimberly Wellington 11th, penalty stroke)

Notre Dame 3 vs Magnolias 0

Trinity Men

QPCC 3 (Adam Perreira 10th, Jordan Vieira 15th, Aidan Elias 17th) 14th) vs Magnolias II 1 (Kimberly Wellington 14rh penalty stroke)

Leigha Wiers
Read More

Queens Park Cricket Club kept their title push in full flow on Sunday, powering past Carib Hockey Club 4-0 to remain firmly atop the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board Open Men’s Outdoor League standings after the latest round of action.
