{"id":909373,"date":"2026-05-30T15:12:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T20:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/30\/canadian-national-health-agency-confirms-1-positive-hantavirus-test\/"},"modified":"2026-05-30T15:12:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T20:12:31","slug":"canadian-national-health-agency-confirms-1-positive-hantavirus-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/30\/canadian-national-health-agency-confirms-1-positive-hantavirus-test\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian national health agency confirms 1 positive hantavirus test"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>VANCOUVER, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/british-columbia\/\">British Columbia<\/a> \u2014 Canada\u2019s national health agency Sunday confirmed that one of four Canadians who returned home from a cruise ship hit with a hantavirus outbreak has tested positive for the virus.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/public-health-agency-of-canada\/\">Public Health Agency of Canada<\/a> confirmed the positive test a day after the public health officer for the province of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/british-columbia\/\">British Columbia<\/a> said the person had received a \u201cpresumptive positive\u201d but further testing would be conducted at the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne individual\u2019s sample was confirmed positive for hantavirus,\u201d the national agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>A second individual who was a traveling partner of the confirmed case was confirmed negative, the statement said. Both people, a couple in their 70s from the Yukon, are in a hospital in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>The four Canadian cruise passengers returned to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/british-columbia\/\">British Columbia<\/a> last Sunday. Besides the couple, there was a person in their 70s from Vancouver Island and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/british-columbia\/\">British Columbia<\/a> person in their 50s who lives abroad.<\/p>\n<p>All are in isolation.<\/p>\n<p>Three people have died since the hantavirus outbreak began on the cruise ship MV Hondius.
