Last month MEATliquor closed five of its eight London locations &#8211; including outlets in Islington, Clapham Junction and Queensway. Just three premises remain open &#8211; two in Oxford Circus and East Dulwich, plus its sister sports bar BLOODsports in Covent Garden.<\/p>\n<p data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The move follows rising <a aria-label=\"energyLink opens in a new tab.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/energy\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">energy<\/a> prices and soaring operational costs. We&#8217;re in the same position as a lot of others in the industry and I&#8217;m just getting ahead of things before we&#8217;re forced to.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The burger brand was first launched in 2009 by Yianni Papoutsis and business partner Collins. What began as a modest mobile van, the MEATwagon, rapidly transformed into a thriving restaurant business across London and the South East.<\/p>\n<p data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Its first physical store opened close to Oxford Street in 2011, and at its peak the chain had 13 branches &#8211; 12 across the UK and one in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This comes as <a aria-label=\"mirror Home\"11 href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/cargiant-closing-dealership-london-cars-37013177\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">British car dealership is set to close within days<\/a>. <a aria-label=\"mirror Home\"22 href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/london\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a>-based <a aria-label=\"mirror Home\"33 href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/cars\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Cargiant<\/a> will <a aria-label=\"mirror Home\"44 href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/money\/major-retail-chains-close-locations-37008511\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">close<\/a> its site in the capital for good on April 24 after its owners were unable to find a buyer. The company previously had more than 2,000 cars available and was among Britain&#8217;s busiest used car <a aria-label href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/supermarkets\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target>supermarkets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The site covers roughly 50 acres and is estimated to be worth around \u00a3100m. It sits adjacent to a planned <a aria-label=\"mirror Home\"55 href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/hs2\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">HS2<\/a> interchange that will link HS2, the Elizabeth Line, overground and other transport connections.<\/p>\n<p data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Cargiant has encountered difficulties in recent years, with directors being compelled to attempt to sell the business and land.
