{"id":906560,"date":"2026-05-17T10:23:29","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T15:23:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/17\/xenophobic-attacks-nans-warns-south-africa-threatens-protests-against-countrys-firms\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T10:23:29","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T15:23:29","slug":"xenophobic-attacks-nans-warns-south-africa-threatens-protests-against-countrys-firms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/17\/xenophobic-attacks-nans-warns-south-africa-threatens-protests-against-countrys-firms\/","title":{"rendered":"Xenophobic Attacks: NANS Warns South Africa, Threatens Protests Against Country\u2019s Firms"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/nigeria\/personal-banking\/loans-payments\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.firstweeklymagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UBA.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone D, has warned it will stage protests and picket South African businesses operating in Nigeria following renewed xenophobic attacks in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Kayode Adeyemo, the zonal coordinator made the position known in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan, expressing anger over reports that two Nigerians were recently killed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recent killing of two Nigerians is not just an isolated tragedy, but a painful reminder of a recurring pattern of hostility and violence against our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Adeyemo described the continued targeting of Nigerians as unacceptable, insisting it must end immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He said the student body had begun mobilising for peaceful protests and picketing of South African firms, arguing that it was unjust for such businesses to thrive in Nigeria while Nigerians faced violence abroad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is morally indefensible for businesses to thrive in an environment where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while Nigerians are subjected to fear and violence elsewhere.
