Copyright: IMAGO<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is closing in on a major milestone with Trabzonspor ahead of their final Turkish Super Lig match of the season against Genclerbirligi,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/\"><u>Soccernet.ng<\/u><\/a>\u00a0reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian forward has been in superb form throughout the campaign for the Black Sea Storm and has played a key role in their push for a return to European football.<\/p>\n<p>Onuachu first impressed during his loan spell at Trabzonspor in the 2023\u201324 season after joining from Premier League side Southampton, scoring 17 goals across all competitions before returning last summer on a permanent deal.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"710\" src=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/thumbor\/2hudpuxgUu-fBTnHVpda6kfFAco=\/960x710\/smart\/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.soccernet.ng%2Fmain%2F2025%2F10%2F20251026_083329.jpg\" alt=\"Soccer Paul Onuachu presented with his goal of the month award\"  ><figcaption>Paul Onuachu presented with his goal of the month award. (Photo credit: Trabzonspor x)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trabzonspor had missed out on European qualification\u00a0last season when they\u00a0finished as low as seventh\u00a0in the Super Lig.\u00a0However, they are now on course for a third-place finish and\u00a0were even in the title race at one stage before a dip in form saw them fall behind Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in the standings.<\/p>\n<h2>Soccer Paul\u00a0Onuachu closing in on Trabzonspor record<\/h2>\n<p>Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu could write his name into Trabzonspor history on Sunday\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.afrik-foot.com\/en-ng\/trabzonspor-gencler-preview-prediction-onuachu-osimhen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>their clash against Genclerbirligi<\/u><\/a>,\u00a0rounding off what has been an outstanding individual season.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian striker has scored 24 goals in all competitions, including 22 in the Turkish Super Lig, where he currently leads the Golden Boot race. He is ahead of Eldor Shomurodov of Istanbul Basaksehir and Anderson Talisca of Fenerbahce, who have 21 and 19 goals respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen is the current holder of the award after scoring 26 goals in his debut season to win it for Galatasaray last term and Onuachu now has the chance to continue Nigeria\u2019s\u00a0dominance among the league\u2019s top scorers.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2748\" height=\"3085\" src=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/thumbor\/IXDsuLjbcRlY01TgUJNlM5uVkNQ=\/2748x3085\/smart\/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.soccernet.ng%2Fmain%2F2026%2F03%2Fimago1070656062.jpg\" alt=\"Soccer Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen\"><figcaption>Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen.  Copyright: xSulaimanxPoojaxAdebayoxIMAGO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If he finishes the season as top scorer, Onuachu would become only the sixth player in Trabzonspor history to achieve the feat, joining the likes of Necmi Perekli, Fatih Tekke, \u015eota Arveladze, Burak Y\u0131lmaz\u00a0and Alexander S\u00f6rloth.<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old\u00a0would also become only the third foreign player in the club\u2019s history to finish as top scorer, following in the footsteps of Arveladze and S\u00f6rloth.<\/p>\n<p>The former Genk striker\u00a0is also closing in on becoming the\u00a0foreign player\u00a0with the most goals in a single S\u00fcper Lig season for Trabzonspor, with the current record of 25\u00a0set by Arveladze in the 1995\u201396 campaign, while S\u00f6rloth scored 24 in the 2019\u201320 season.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"4206\" height=\"2788\" src=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/thumbor\/--czJvghJZGI-9yuy8Wc7a6dTOA=\/4206x2788\/smart\/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.soccernet.ng%2Fmain%2F2026%2F03%2Fimago1066456256.jpg\" alt=\"Soccer Nigeria and Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu\"><figcaption>Nigeria and Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu.
